So just had an email from the dealer saying the car arrived at UK port yesterday. They have now said it will take about a week to arrive to the dealership which is fine.

However they told me that when it arrives will they supply a registration for it. Only then I can sign the finance documents and I have to sign them at the dealership as apparently its the law!!??? Now I wouldn't mind if the dealership was just down the road from me however its a good 1.5 hour drive there. Also only once I have signed the finance documents will the money be released which he said will take 4 days before I can collect the car.

Now this is the first I have ever heard of this usually when I have bought cars I have with signed the finance documents the day before or even on the day! Has anyone else experienced this. Plus is it law to sign finance documents on the premises? I'm just a little peeved as I feel they might be delaying things and I am getting mucked about here.

BTW this is JCB Seat in Ashford if anyone had experience.

I bought my Leon (in May 2014) using Seat Finance and I went for a test drive, agreed a deal and then filled in the paperwork. I arranged to collect the car a few days later and at this point I signed the papers and got the car straight away.

If the finance is through Seat finance it may be worth speaking to them directly to ask the question....

Just have they just said it on the dealer! So pretty useless!

I signed my docs 2 days before collection.

It may not still be the case but HP finance docs used to be classed as 'on trade premises' . Not the law as such but consumer credit act. No idea what the requirement is now as I no longer do underwriting.

Thanks for the reply's guys.

Also another thing, how much fuel are they suppose to come with?

Had a 2hr drive to pick mine up and was worried about problems with finance paperwork on day (a Saturday). All ok though, signed there and then and drove car away within the hour. That was HP.

Amount of fuel is what you've negotiated or down to dealer goodwill. Think I got about a third of a tank.

I only ask about the fuel because when I bought my Audi, it says in the small print comes with half a tank of fuel. Was hoping it says somewhere on the Seat small print.

I picked up my Cupra from Eastbourne on the 13th of November. This was the first time I had been in to the dealership. When they got the car they sent me the finance paperwork on email, I signed it and posted it back to them. Once VWFS had received the paperwork (which I think the dealer faxes over) and had confirmed they would release payment I was then allowed to pick up the car. Mine came with a full tank of fuel as this was part of the deal using Eastbourne through CarWow. Plus I've always negotiated that with every car I have ever bought. I don't know whether they used Super Unleaded though as per the recommendations by Seat!

I will shortly be picking mine up from JCB SEAT too, (through Drive the Deal.)

The guy I've been dealing with should be emailing me the HP finance documents for signing before I go down to collect. He too said it can take a short while for SEAT Finance to finally approve it all.

When we got our MK2 and our Ibiza New from Robinsons in Lowestoft, I signed the VAG HP papers on the day and drove away the same day.

However, with the MK3 (which as some may know never arrived ) Lifestyle SEAT asked me to sign the HP Paper work a week before it was due for delivery (said was their policy), which is what i did, at the time i said i wasnt really happy signing for something that i hadnt yet received and as it turned out i was right to be a little concerned as VAG were going to deduct the money from my account when i hadnt actually taken delivery of the car.

To be fare it wasnt Lifestyle's fault and they sorted it out for me. The biggest pain was the Cherished Plate DVLA documents which now have a March 2015 allocation (to a new vehicle) date and signature on them which i will need to strike through if and when i eventually register a car with that plate.

The paperwork on my first mk3 was all sorted on a thursday/friday and I collected Saturday.

The paperwork for my second mk3 was done on the morning, dealer sorted everything whilst I was on the 30 min drive over. Drove away after the dealer swapped my alloys and I had a drive of the Cupra. Less than 4 hours from start to finish.

How long did they say you had to wait. The guy I have been dealing with said if you sign the documents at home then you have to wait for 14 days!

I think its all very odd the stories I have been told!

I bought my previous leon from JCB in 2013.

All done via email and post and the electronic signature done on day of collection which took no longer than 30 mins (Sunday 1st September).

In fact I was in Kent about an hour and was back on the 350 mile trip north before lunch [B)]

He hasn't specified exactly, just that the SEAT finance check the documents. He said the car still has a couple of days before it would be ready, but certainly no mention of 14 days wait. I wouldn't be looking to pick it up before next weekend anyway now though.

I've just signed and emailed the documents, so we shall see what happens next.

I'm dealing with a guy called James, who says he deals with all the Drive the Deal orders for the JCB group.
