Hi All, I would appreciate some help right now. I took my car for its yearly MOT and Service two weeks ago and I was told the only issue was the break pads were over the limit and required changing. He was kind enough to pass the mot and put it as advisory as long as I immediately got them changed within the next few days. However, upon getting my cAr back the service light was still on so took it back and got them to turn it off. I checked the invoice and it said they added anti freeze, changed oil filter, brake fluid, and air filter. I took the car home as it was only 2 mins away and didn’t drive it for the rest of the day. The next day I turned the car on fine but the engine management light was on and the car was shaking. Through my experience two years prior the exact same thing happened and it was the coil pack. I took it back again and they ran diagnostic and it came back as a timing chain elongation which then added the fuel sensor fault. I needed a second opinion so got AA to run one and it came out as the following.
Patrol found the following fault code/s:System : Engine control - VS0 / Simos 10 UDS Status :p119A00 - Fuel pressure sensor. Error Message : Faulty operation. Static fault. Status :p006800 - Load measurement. Error Message : Deviation excessive. Sporadic fault. Status :p150D00 - Chain elongation. Error Message : . Static fault. Status :p001600 - Camshaft timing advance (Bank 1). Error Message : Incorrect assignment. Static fault. Status :p034100 - Camshaft position sensor 1. Error Message : Signal improbable. Static fault. We have arranged for a recovery of your vehicle.suspect engine timing chain has stretched causing engine to run slightly out of sync.

The car is 2011 and is currently on 44k miles with a yearly service since I got it. SEAT said it’s £500 with labour just to remove the cylinder head to look underneath it, then they will have to diagnose the engine and then charge parts and labour on that as well. I was just wondering could this of been the fault of the original garage when they put oil in it. They said it was fully synthetic 5w30 according to auto data under my reg(but they could of just said this to keep me happy) and unless it got drained and tested I can’t prove it was the wrong one. This has caused a major inconvenience in terms of work etc and as it’s a finance car they are not helpful in any way.

Putting a slightly different type of oil in wouldn't cause the timing chain to stretch. Personally I'd find a decent independent VAG specialist. But from the above, they will need to strip the engine down and inspect it for damage to the pistons / valves. They'll also need to do the chain and tensioner as a start (so that'll be £400ish alone). But you may be best getting them to strip it down and check for damage and then you'll have a better idea of whether it's even worth doing the chain.

If the chain tensioner was already faulty, then draining the oil from the engine will cause the tensioner (hydraulic) to fully retract due to no oil. Usually you start the car as normal when you fill it back up with oil, the chain will actually jump but the engine will cease on the next start, as it happened in your case
