STOKE
Fitted an autometer boost guage last night. spent hours getting tube through bulk head etc etc. It doesn't f'ing work[:@]
The only ting I can think it might be is that the standard Bosch dump valve may be split/faulty as instead of the nice whoosh it used to make, it now makes a high pitch 'whimpering' noise.
Would this prevent the gauge from working.
Advice would be greatly appreciated:help:

Does the needle move at all on the gauge?

Where have you fed the gauge from?

Does the car feel slow?

My standard valve was quite loud even before REVO... because it was busted....

If your standard makes any noise......within reason... get a Forge !!

Mike

fed the gauge to the vacume pipe on top of the dump valve. The needle doesn't even flicker even when I floor it.
Car doesn't feel any different really.
The carbonio CAI caused the whoosh noise. But recently the noise has to changed. sounds crap.

bring it to the staffs meet on sunday and ill have a look for you mate but no promises

cheers mate. Was planning on coming anyhoo.
Doing a load of miles this week. would a knackered valve do any harm?

Yeah i have heard that they make that kind of noise when its a faulty Dump Valve, get a Forge Dump Valve, You can also get Service Kits for these to keep them in top notch condition ;)

nice one. at least i'm not going mad.....! I think pedestrians think theres a chicken stuck in the engine when I go past.
don't suppose u know whether this affects gauges?

Hhmm i dont know, why dont you see if it is the Dump Valve that needs replacing and if it is then replace it and see if the gauge works?

Agreed...If someone at the staffs meet has a Forge it takes like 2 mins to change a valve over... give it a go... then if need be buy a valve...

Seems Odd needle doesn't move at all..as if there is NO boost.. no build up pressure... ? Unless a hose is kinked?

Yeah i was trying to work out why it isnt moving at all

I suppose its either not fitted right or there is NO boost at all as Mike says but if there was NO boost and the Dump Valve wasnt working right i think the car would sense it and send you a warning light of some sort?

Clever things these ECUs are!

Weird:confused: There is definatley boost , the dump valve is louder than ever. I'm thinking:
A) the kink suggestion, as when I caught sight of the tube in amoungst the dash wires -I was so exited I wrenched it to freedom with a coat hanger:blink:
B) Try the Forge suggestion at the staffs meet. I'm V. impatient tho -Sunday seems a long time:cry:

Track all tubing from dump valve to gauge... ensure no kinks... if the car is boosting at all the needle will move... When the ignition is off does the boost gauge sit on '0'?

Then when idling its sits anywhere between 10 vac and 20 vac?

If this doesn't happen then you def have an issue somewhere... I would say kink... as a kink will not flag up an error on ECU, as pressure is still being reached and boost is occuring... the kink just means that NO pressure is reaching the gauge....

Give that a go...tbh IMO It would be worth trying a Forge at the meet even if it is a kink... ...

Mike

cheers mate. will do.
Yes it sits on 0 when its off. No it doesn't move when idling. Sounds like definate kinkage. I'll have to take the dash off again.. what a ****.
I havn't wired up the back light....this won't affect anything will it?
Thanks again

The backlight shouldn;t make any diff as the gauge will be mechanical. If the noise is a kind of 'whimpering' sound then it maybe the turbo stalling which isn't a good thing, bacially means the dump valve is not dumping altho you will still get the boost from the turbo., i take it you used a 't' piece to tap into the vac hose coming from the top of the dv? and didn't just disconect the original hose and stick the gauge hose on?
Also some of these 't' pieces supplied in the kit have to be postioned the right way round, one of the legs of the 't' may have a 'choke' on it so not to shock the gauge, obviously this should be the leg going to your gauge, mind you if it was just the 't' piece being incorrect you would still see some movement n the gauge.

that doesn't sound good. I'll try changing the t-piece around tonight to see about the 'choke'.
Yeah I fitted the T-piece into the vac hose - got a guide off here.
Wish i'd put it into the fuel pressure regulator thingymigigy now thou -sounds like it would have been a safer bet!

If i were you i'd just take the t piece out just now and put the original hose back on, until the meet on sunday so the other boys can have a look.

Cheers

Danny

I had this problem with my autometer!!!! It was the t-piece in the end! Check the gauge operation by blowing and sucking on the connection pipe, the needle should move slightly! Then have a look at the t-piece and you'll probably find that it is blocked due to naff manufacture! Mine was completely blocked on the piece that connects to the guage and I got no readings atall even when flooring it hard! Get another t-piece mate for about 50p from the local car accesories shop and seal all connections with PTFE. I guarantee 99% this will fix ya problem!

i would check the pipe thar leads into the gauge . if you cant see the full pipe try blowing down it and see if it comes out the other end?

You've possibly damaged the tubing feeding it through the bulk head.

I found a metal coathanger, with the tube tied to it best bet to get it through if you had problems.

Have you used the t-piece? Cut into the boost line and seal with the t-piece. Who knows you might be taking it from the wrong place??

I would imagine the gauge would be working as they would all be tested before they leave the factory so there's probably a problem elsewhere?
