Poll-fan fuse on battery melted/replaced or not?

In conjunction with the thread running re fire.
How many peeps have had this part fail or be replaced.
melted fuse holder on the battery. Controls the fans amongst other things.

Well surely they should replace the radiator fans aswell if thats the cause lol

the fuse block on my 20vT Ibiza melted and caused the air-con and radiator fans not to work.

Dealer told me it was a known problem, and that the cuase was that the 2 fans were drawing too much current. Replaced both fans and the entire fuse block assembly under warranty.

mine did it, it got replaced under warranty, new one has'nt done it since, same fans, only thing changed was fuse plate.

I've voted no but from looking, water has got inm there at some point.
It's only a matter of time before it'll need replacing.

Must say, this fire thing has really caught my attention and I am concerned!

16 yes vs 3 no so far

Not good odds is it so far..

C'mon SEAT UK.... you allegedly read this forum ...

84% Failure rate on Customers Feedback.
Pretty conclusive.

"hello, is that watchdog?"

corrosion = higher resistance = more current for the same power consumption = melting..........

Big question is why? and what are VAG/SEAT UK going to do when this results in fire?

soo really its cause by corrosion, water maybe gettin on the contacts. well i did notice my battery terminal on the negative is kinda gone abit corroded.... like white scum on it ... i will have got clean that up me thinks:blink:

i am not convinced it damp. its in a hot engine bay, has no means of easily getting water onto it....
galvanic corrosion however from 'iffy' plating on some parts etc and that to me is just as likely if not more so.
worth checking for earths and good contacts, as small potentials can create the cells from which corrosion starts.

My A/C stopped working. I knew that it isn't the gas or some other malfunction as the AC symbol wasn't blinking. Opened the fusebox on the battery and one of the three green (!) 30A fuses was melted (a bit of the fusebox itself too). It isn't a severe damage, replaced the fuse (applied some contact spray on fusebox's contacts) and will check regularly.

What about sticking a clean one on & lubing it up to prevent oxidisation?

assuming the fan draws less current than the fuse rating....

mine happend the other day, temp warning came on popped bonnet and fans wernt going, immediatly thought of this, pulled fuse out and swapped it and they came on, looks like plastic started to melt on fuse anf fuse started corroding. Gonna get new fuses tomorrow
