Polo VS Ibiza

I think your better option would be a high spec FR. like you said you're not after a fast car, and the 1.2tsi is a very capable and reliable little engine...with good gains from a stage 1 map. I personally think they're a lot better looking than the Polo's, and I really don't think its worth spending the extra money on either the Cupra or Polo, as its not what you need.

I absolutely love my Boc, but the 1.4tsi is a flawed engine. I'm lucky enough to only drive mines for pleasure, but even still it requires constant checking of the oil and I'm paranoid whenever it makes a strange noise haha. Recently it has been starting quite lumpy from cold and it's not even covered 20k. If I was buying a car to commute in, it would definitely be going.

That said, the new 1.4tsi engines are meant to be a lot better

I know the 1.2 TSI is a great engine. The problem I have is when I price up an FR I'd have to spend about £2K on extras to get the goodies I want, compared to about £650 on the Cupra. Im very likely to want to swap in three years and we all know I'd get pretty much sod all back on those extras. With that in mind the FR would work out about £3K-£3.5K cheaper to buy but I reckon I'd get about £2.5K-£3K less when it comes time to sell.

I don't really have a commute at present..... as I live about 1 mile from work so Im not too concerned about that. It's just rather unnerving when so many people on here appear to be having issues (I know forums highlight issues, but still lots of people). Luckily I'd be buying new which might help.

Well my fr is a 59 plate and I bought it second hand with 21k on the the clock and touch wood I've never had any problems with it even when using it to commute for a lazy 5min drive to work

if u get polo it wont have any guts to it being a 1.2 and the 1.4 cupra people only hae problems with them cause they thrash em on a cold engine or never check oil as an incident happened a while ago with a1.4tsi fr i found a ibiza mk5 on side of road.engine management light came on .i offered to help a fellow seat owner..his car got towed to the seat dealer i go to the dealer to see the salesman in sidcup to find that when they checked the car the bloke basically ran the car dry and never topped up/checked oil its people like him that give the 1.4tsi a bad name

This might be the case with some people but there has been issues with the engine. Often it had run dry because it had used all the oil in less than 1000 miles.

I accept sometimes it's because people don't look after things but thats not the sole cause of peoples issues.

Put it this way, if you're at a set of lights one day and a Cupra pulls up next to you, would you feel a little bit gutted that wasn't you if you went for an FR? I know I would. Spend that bit more and go all the way!

I had a Cupra and I've got a Polo.... I know which I preferred.

I understand where Elliott is coming from but for me personally I prefer the look of the FR and I'm more than happy with its performance whilst still standard, lol

See I do prefer the look of the Cupra....looks a little more 'grown up' to me. Im not sure why but when I saw the FR and then the Cupra.... I thought the FR is what I'd get at 18 and the Cupra now Im 25. If that makes ANY sense.

It's more a case of wanting something that feels a step up from my current motor. An FR is basically equivalent to what I already have.

I think the Cupra's price will drop a lot quicker, if that's a factor in your decision.
