The other day I noticed a bird had sh1t on my car on my drive to work. I was in work for four hours and immediately took my car through a hand car wash on my way home, with the result that after it there seems to have been a blemish left in the lacquer where the bird sh1t was. I know that bird poo is bad for paint, but four and a bit hours to leave what seems to be a permanent mark is a bit of a joke. Anybody else having any issues with paint quality and/or finish? I guess it's time to go and seek out a decent wax to protect the car.

I had the same problem and was told by a paint sprayer the paint is more water based now so easily marks than it used to, so I had my car coated in 9h pro ceramic( 2 coats) and that was 2 years ago, been spot on ever since

Get yourself D.A Polisher, under a £100 and safe in the hands of a novice best investment I have made, saves me ££££s

How much was it to put the 9h pro on?

How much was it to put the 9h pro on? It's surprised me a bit as paint has been water based for years, the quality of the finish on this one seems very soft, compared with the finish on a BMW. I know you 'get what you pay for', and a Cupra could hardly be considered cheap. I guess one negative amongst a bunch of positives isn't that bad.

I' actually ordered a buffing machine & wax just before posting. Think I'll maintain a professional job with one. :)

Just read the following post on Briskoda.net about exactly the same thing - might be worth a try before attacking it with the polishing mop

Regarding the bird bomb damaging the clear coat... Have you tried to clay or machine polish the damage? Either way, give it a good clean and then get the hair dryer out (may require living with a female or a trip to the shop). Start an inch or two away from the damage on a lowish heat setting. After a good 20 to 30 seconds, check your work. If no improvement, move closer a little and/or apply for a slightly longer time. Repeat until the damage has disappeared (no, really!).

Dunno how or why, but over on DetailingWorld they discovered that the hair dryer trick practically eliminates clear coat damage caused by bird etching. Seems it doesn't actually break into the clear coat at all, just marks it. If you click the link you can see pics of it in action and a better description of how to do it. For whatever reason, heat fixes it. Can't hurt to try! :)

Thanks for that man! I'll check it out & give it a go. Seems next weekend is going to be devoted to making the Cupra look as good as possible. I'll get a few before & after pics and post them under this thread when I'm done.

If you are in Belfast get down to pmg auto are and get them to give the car a coat of gtechniq. mine got waxed when lifted and I use the gtechniq v2 now every few months to keep it good.

£200 a coat I know it is expensive but if like me you pay a lot for our cars so I like to look after them

How much did they charge you for the gtechniq?
