hello, just a quick question, yesterday i bought some porsche twists that came off a 1999 996 carrera 2. im looking at buying some low profile tyres to fit and was wondering what would be the best, im a bit of a noob when it comes to tyres so any help would be great :).

The tyres that came on the wheels are:

Front - 205/50zr17
Rear - 255/40zr17

i know i need spacers 5x100 to 5x130, im thinking 20mm.

so yes, what would be the correct size tyres that would be low profile and fit my ibiza mk fr.

im also interested in stretched tyres.

any help would be great :D

Thanks
Tom

wouldnt know best for the 9's(might have to roll arch abit on rear???) but im sure 205/40 will be good for the front!

ok so 205/40 for the fronts :), i know its not going to be slack at the rear haha, what about with 20mm spacers though?

Depends how you want it to look, check this site out for lots of pictures:

205/40 won't give any stretch on the front, you need 195 or possibly lower. On the rear I'd be looking at 215/40 to try to minimize rubbing and too much of a side wall height difference in comparison to the front.

I'm running 8" all round with 195/40 tyres it looks like this:

This website is good for checking how far out your wheels will stick:

http://www.willtheyfit.com/

You need to find the offset (ET number) of the wheels and then take away the spacer amount to work out the overall offset.

This is mine running ET12 at the rear and 27 at the front if you wish to compare with what you're planning using the willtheyfit.com site above:

when it comes to tyre sizes, stretch etc lets just say its my weak point. your saying:

front 195/40r17
rear 215/40r17

im looking to get 20mm spacers, the offset of these wheels are et55, does that help at all?

I'm not saying get this as I don't know what you want. You said you were interested in the stretched tyres look... I said you need 195s or less on the front and to look at those websites to visualise what you're considering. Stretch doesn't come easy on a 7" wide wheel, 195 is hardly any to be fair.

At ET35 your front would stick out about 20mm less than the picture of mine and the rear 10mm less

ok so what if i wanted the normal look, no stretch or anything just normal low profile tyres to fit, what sizes would you say are right? i will defo be getting the 20mm spacers then, just unsure on tyres. thanks for the help so far i appreciate it!

205/40 is standard on Ibiza FR and Cupra 7" wide wheels

You could possibly go for a 225/35 on the rear that wouldn't look very stretched and have a similar rolling radius to the front

so for the twists itll be:

front 205/40r17
rear 225/40r17

are you certain these will fit?

Just browsing your FR thread, looking nice!

Thanks,

Is your car lowered?

When reading the numbers of tyres the first bit is the width and second bit is the ratio. This is the ratio of side wall height to width so if you increase the width by a lot you need to decrease the ratio to keep the same actual height of side wall

This is why I said:
225/35

It's best to keep the side wall heights as close as possible to minimize any potential problems with ABS sensing wheels going different speeds

my car will be sitting on coilovers and will be going as low as she can when the porsche wheels are on.

ok so fronts 205/40
rear 225/35

That's probably the best option you will get with no stretch

If you want to go really low without rubbing you do need some stretch so you'd be better with:
Front 195/40
Rear 215/40

I got 215 40 17s stretched over 9.75. I have slight rubbing on back. If you want low you need stretch. I wish I put 195 on the front of mine.

go stretched as you will kick yourself if get normal tyres stick coilovers on and cant go low as get massive rubbing then will end up buying more tyres and they will be stretched ones

if i was doing it i would buy adaptors first mock the wheels up that way you can see how far they stick from the arches and then buy tyres acordingly so they work last thing you want is to buy everything them things dont work.

defo going for stretched tyres then matey! what mm adaptors do you reckn 20mm?

so 195/40r17 for front, may just buy adaptors first for the rears, see how much they sit out and buy the tyres after
