Hi guys,

I have a problem with my 2005 Leon FR TDI 150, it has quite a few miles on the clock.

Since I have had it in November it has had difficulty engaging 1st and Reverse, it does eventually engage after a few tries.

I have recently been tracing a boost leak issue, but now I believe I have a different problem; when on partial throttle, between Idle and 2000 RPM, I get a metallic screeching noise when accelerating, this tends to usually go away after 2500 RPM. Also occurs when lifting off the throttle completely. It is a high pitched noise that sounds like a very loud whistle but not a traditional boost leak noise.

Also when engaging/disengaging gears especially from cold I get a thump/judder I can feel through the clutch pedal over the last few weeks.

Does this sound like classic DMF/Thrust bearing symptoms?

If so I am in the market for a mid range clutch/DMF flywheel combo.

I want to keep the dual mass flywheel as I didn't like the vibration I got from my previous leon tdi with the SMF, ideally need it to handle 300ft/lbs torque as I plan eventually to get a remap.

Budget is sub £550 if possible any suggestions would be appreciated.

Thanks in advance,

Dominic

Sounds to me like your clutch and DMF need changing. Trouble getting 1st and reverse are classic symtoms of a worn clutch.

to the sound try to exclude the following first:
worn alternator drive belt.
worn alternator pulley.

engaging 1st and Reverse try this:
5 and 6 speed shift linkage adjustment

Very good instruction video on linkage adjustment, well I had a good look last night at this issue and found my EGR solenoid valve seems to be opening the EGR constantly as I have cable tied off the EGR Valve vacuum hose and guess what! No more high pitched whistle!!!

It pulls so much better with the EGR vacuum blocked off!

Still doesn't explain why I get judder through the clutch pedal on engaging gears but as Gaz has said probably means I do need a clutch/DMF change soon.

Anyone had problems with the PD 150 Garrett 1749VB turbo outlet connector, i've had SFS and original VW red pipe on there now and both are loose at turbo?
