Just thought I'd venture over from the Ibiza Mk5 section and see what you guys are doing in the Mk4 bit. I've noticed there's alot more of the 1.2s in this section that the Mk5, so I thought I'd get an idea of what you guys have done to your cars. I've noticed a lot of people have lowered their cars either on coilovers or springs, and some of you have done remaps, however with a 1.2 I've read you've only got gains of about 6-7bhp. Now I'm not an expert, but going from 70bhp to 77bhp doesn't seem to make alot of difference considering it'll cost around the £300 mark for a remap.

And I've used the search function and there's threads which have some mods, however I thought it might be nice to have them all in one place. So what have you guys with the smaller engines done to your cars? (And people with the larger engines feel free to comment to :) )

Thanks :D

I'll be honest, I feel like sacking modding my 1.2 altogether. Just sick of having next to no power. I certainly won't be throwing any engine mods at it, for the benefits, it costs way too much to try and tune them.

I've done some mods to make it a bit prettier and may continue doing some more, but I'm not going to be throwing thousands at it.

I'd stick to aesthetic mods if you're going to do any at all tbh. Unless you feel up for supercharging your car, there isn't all that much point in trying to increase the power at all, and even that is gonna cost big dolla

Veyron! Where did you get them vRS Spiders from! They look mint!

Cheers mate! I made an account over on Briskoda.net and kept checking the for sale section as they have tons of Fabia and Octavia vRS alloys for sale on there! They seem to go cheap as well, mine was £160 with tyres but are only the 16" version. Would have preffered the 17"'s :(

I think they fit the MK5 ?

What offset are they, I know the Mk5s are 5x100?

I never bothered with engine mods on the small power cars i've owned. Didn't see the point.
I already had Webber carb on the XR2.
Never bothered with the 216SI as it was only a 1.6 16v and the clio was a 1.2 16v so again would have been a waste of money, i did a few body mods on the Clio though.
I only did an exhaust on my Celica VVTi as ya can't get much out of em without supercharging em.
I did have the CZT remapped, a K&N and Forge split-R, plus i only ran V-Power (can't remember last time i filled up with standard crap). I saw 189bhp and 208Lb/Ft out of a 1.5turbo (not bad).
Now i see the point with a turbo unit as you see good BHP for your £££'s.
I left my RX8 231 standard and i'm going to mod my Cupra 20VT when warranty expires.
I don't touch the engine unless it's worth it and i aint into body mods these days so wouldn't bother if i had a small engined car. Although i won't buy a car with a small engine as i get bored stupid with em.
Our lass has a 2008 Yaris 1.4 D4D which is 10.7sec to 62mph and i get so frustrated with it as it takes your options away cos it's so slow and the brakes are so crap, to me they feel dangerous. It is so much better built though, more weight and feel to the steering, better gear changes and better pedal feel too.
I want to get hers remapped and a filter etc, just so when i drive it i don't mind it too much, now i would mod hers as it's turbo derv and will see some good improvements from small engine lol

Seriously? I want a 1.2 now lol! I feel mines slowwww

My Dad has a 1.4 (83Bhp) Cordoba and it is the SLOWEST car I've ever driven!
I couldn't believe how powerless it is, I think mine has more poke in it!

mines is 100hp engine but really only goes when your over 4k which i rarely do tbh. Time for a diesel

Those figures say 103 top speed, i've had 108 in mine (on a test track of course ;) )

If you change at 6K it seems quite rapid!

I've read somewhere though that the 1.2 out accelerates the 1.4 at first then the 1.4 closes in and has a better top end

I'm not going to be changing my car for at least 3 years but I think I may buy the Mk5 1.2 Tsi, it'll have plenty power for wht I need and it'll still be cheap to run and so on...

yeah i was thinking mk5 as well but it seems they dont get as good as reviews as the mk4 did in its day and also compared to many other rivals that are priced the same. Also the standard models back bumper sits way too high imo and i am not going down the route of changing suspension again lol.

To be honest if I have the money then I'll get the Polo or Audi A1 with that engine, purely from a build quality point of view.
Who knows, maybe if Skoda do it too, anyways 3 years is a long time away!
For now I'm happy with my 1.2 it's quick enough and powerful enough for what I need and it costs about £250 per month all in to run.
