Have always done this on my regular routes, but have been caught out lots of times on strange roads, even when looking far ahead (I'm a biker too) but so far no damage done. The 280 wheels are quite strong, and have only had the OE Bridgestones and Mich PSS on, I always use comfort mode in the winter as the softer setting is better for wet/snowy roads, so that may have helped too.
