Power loss over 3,000 rpm - mk2 Tdi ibiza 90

My ibiza (1998 mk2 90bhp tdi) seems to be losing power over 3,000 rpm - mainly noticeable in 3rd and 4th gear.

It feels like the power is momentarily shutting off above these revs. It is not a total power loss, more a lumpy delivery.

Does anybody have any ideas?

I thought it might be the airflow sensor?

Im sure someone will say its clutch-slip... its the problem of the Month!

does it just not want to rev much past that or does it stutter up and down when you say momuntarily shutting off.

It would be handy to have VAGCOM on a laptop to log airflow requested vs actual to rule out the MAF.
