i have an amp plugged up, + to battery and earth to battery -ve

whenever i rev, or use the power steering, i get a nasty electrical noise type squeal

any idea what i can do about this??

power cables are kept seperate to audio cables

hmm, i did have it earthed to chassis just now, i got a worse, strange clicking pulsing noise, (kind of like in independence day when they first pick up the alien signal thro the speaker)

the noise now is improved from the chassis ground. :s

not sure if this is relevent, but when i bought the car second hand, not sure if it was a factory 'feature'but there is a big fat thick, short wire, connecting the battery -ve terminal, directly to a big bolt on the chassis near the right hand shock

so seems that battery -ve is connected to earth anyway ?

I had this problem when i first got my sound system installed. The installer diagnosed it as engine supression.

However i later found out that that particular installer was s**t!

I fitted a ground loop isolater which helped the problem a little but not completely.

One day i lost my rag with it all and unplugged everything and went to 'Source' in Chappletown, South Yorks. They laughed when they saw how it had been installed.

Booked it in. They took everything out started from scratch and haven't had a problem since.

Hope this helps in anyway mate (i know how much it did my head in)

cool cheers.

i've just changed with rca set im using from the head unit, it's got front and rear non fading

the fronts gives the wierd squeal, the rear set give a perfect output.

odd :p

Im not expert but when the guy from source was telling me the problem he mentioned something about running the RCA cable on the different side from other wiring.

Hope this helps, i would like to be more specific but i aint no expert on the wiring aspect of ICE.
