Hi all

Has anyone else had problems getting a new key coded?
Was in with my local dealer today having a new turbo fitted and asked them to code a new flip key I'd got off e-bay to the immobiliser - after much faffing about, they say they can't get the key to take a code.
Anyway, since I have to go back in December (The flywheel they fitted in September is apparently faulty - SEAT's going to rue giving an extended warranty on this car :) ) and the mechanic is looking into a "manual" way of coding the key  for next time.
Does such a thing exist, or am I better off just getting a new transponder chip to stick into this key? (Only had one key from the when I got the car, so can't even cannibalise the spare...) Really don't think this dealer has a clue - told me at the start that SEAT loaded the 7 digit SKC directly into the car for the keys to be coded, then while I'm standing at the service desk, shouts the 4 digit code at the mechanic to go program the key.

I'm so going to have to get VAG-Com...

Hi
Before you brought the key did you check it was the correct frequency and the correct transponder to match you car as i believe not all keys are the same.

Yep, checked part no, frequency etc. - all correct.
Might just be a duff transponder - I'll see the dealer again in a week or so about this mythical manual method of pairing the keys, and if that doesn't pan out, just get a new chip and try again...

I believe the so called 'manual' method which can be found in the manual is concerned with pairing the transponder to the car once it has been correctly coded
