That is just a dust seal, replacing that wont make the caliper suddenly start working, or make the winding in mech work.

didnt mean that was what was stopping it winding back... i noticed the seal was broke when i popped the piston out.. i was just saying that the piston ha to go back a bit before it get to the winding part...

still sounds to me that the caliper is not working, as venner said in a previous post

If the piston was working correctly you would have even wear on both discs and not just one all corroded up on the braking surface.

my advise is tho is to try that tool firstly...may save a lot of money if it isnt knackered, ut if it is at least you do have the tool to keep for future use.
my piston siezed and was rubbing the pad on the disk a couple hundred miles and disindergrated them both so i dont know why piston didnt want to go back 1st time but went back straight away after popping the piston out.

definitly try a different tool! If the piston has come that far out that it spins then u need a lot of force to get it back in! Dont know what a cube is or how it works but the one gsf sell will lock in the caliper and the only movement it has is pushing the piston in as you turn it! I tried to screw it in for ages without a tool and it span and span!

I only found out the last time i did my rear brakes, when using the caliper winding tool, as you turn the handle you may only get one turn on it or less then you have to loosen the hex part off with a spanner, then turn the handle, then loosen it off with a spanner, then turn the handle.......and so on, otherwise it locks up tight and the piston does'nt want to go it.
Dunno if that would help, you might not have needed new calipers.

Had a VW garage look at it today and they said they were screwed so ive had a mate who works in the VW garage change the calipers and the rear discs and pads on his lunch break today so everything is now working
