Hi all, thought I'd join this club as I am currently looking out for a MK3 Ibiza Cupra. Seen as how you guys here own/have owned one?, I just wondered whether you are able to give me some advice on searching for one, (tips, known faults, things to look out for etc). I've done a fair bit of research already on the car, but would like to know a bit more on the day-to-day running side of thngs.

All help or advice will be greatly appreciated!

Is it a Cupra or Cupra R you're after...?

Welcome to SCN by the way.

Cheers buddy!

I'm really after the Cupra, although the Cupra R is tempting, but its finding a nice clean example (and also I'd be coughing up more on the insurance just for an extra 20 or so bhp!)

hi mate welcome to the site, glad to see you made the right decision on the make of car lol:D

in standard mode they are quite good apart from the handerling i would change that straight away before anythink else,

when you get it re-mapped it will feel like a completely different car cause you get about 30bhp gain:D

although you can get through a fair bit of petrol if you constantly nail it.

i have a mk3 cupra and i think it's the best decision i've ever made, beats the usual chavs lol

these cars are like wolfs in sheeps clothin!!!!

yer good luck in your hunt mate, the problem is to get a nice one you need a budget of 6 grand+, allthough saying that i paid that and in the 2 weeks of owning it iv had a waterlogged ecu and 2 coilpacks go, maybe its just my luck! other than that its a fine example, lol

Now my window regulators nackered!

Wicked car tho once you get passed the little problems (not saying youll get em)

ps, hope you like petrol stations - youll be in one regularly.

....I'm sure we're supposed to be encouraging him :p
But no, every car has it's pitfalls.... And you're in the best place to find out how to avoid / solve any problems....

If you can find / afford / insure an Cupra R, they hold their money a little better and have uprated Brakes & suspension etc over a Cupra.... Getting rare now though, people are hanging on to them...

Thank you for all the replies, they will definately help me when looking over the car (s).
I have found that I can get a very good one for around the 5500-6k mark, and I'm prepared to pay a little bit more if need be.
I'm definatley looking for a standard one, and doubt I'd be touching it in terms of mods, just regular detailing and servicing! :D

Am I best to take out a dealers warranty upon purchase of the car, I take it all of the common problems will be covered under this?

I know that the anti-perforation warranty changed from 6 to 12 years in 2001, check this with SEAT Customer Services before buying!
