Hello to everyone

I have a 2025 Cupra Leon 1.5 tsi with a manual box with almost 3000km
When on 1900km while I was driving the car lost power, the shifter stuck in gear and it locked the front wheels.
After some tries the gear lever went to neutral but there was a gear stuck in the box.
I flatbeded the car to the dealership where they checked it and found that the shifter linkage springed adjusters on the gearbox where lose and really out of spec and the box had 2 gears selected at once.
After the adjustment the car run fine for about 100k and then the same thing happened again.
The dealership dropped the gearbox and found that the gears inside had excessive side to side play.
They changed the gearbox in the warranty and the car stayed at the dealer for a month until the box arrived.

Now I have another problem. The sleeve in which the gear shift cable runs through has detached from its end cap and the shifter is a bit loose.
They are going to change the whole shift tower which means they are going to disassemble the central tunnel inside the car.

Has anyone else had such problems on an new car?
Is cupra - vw group quality just gone to ****?

Thanks in advance

Sounds like the gearbox was the main problem from the start, which is rare these days as mainly it's software & electrical defects people report.

It's unusual but not unknown to have a brand new car be nothing but problems. I've had one where it spent more time in the dealership than driving, glad to see the back of it when it left, but this was in 2006 and also VW, so not a recent thing.

Don't be worried about rejecting a car and cancelling the contract, particularity if it's PCP or lease etc as your rights are protected but follow the recommendations on how to go about it.

Thanks for your response.
It's a private car and I've paid the full price upon delivery, so there's nothing I can do.
Just hope it doesn't brake again

Potential it is bad luck.
But you have 4years warranty if i am correct.
Or atleast i got it 4 years full warranty

When i was working as peugeot tehnical specialist. I got as well cars in that where 3months old and had several problems.
Some was just at the factory they bended a pin inside one connector.
To that we need to replace gearbox as well in the first year. First we tried to fix it. But then it failed again. Customer got free new gearbox

Thanks for your answer.
On Monday they changed the whole manual assembly with a new one (gear lever, gearshift cables) and now the shifts are ok,
but when you move the gear lever from neutral to the left to select 1st or 2nd or downshift from 3rd to 2nd
it is a bit sticky and it creaks.
I'm not going back to the dealer yet in hope that the creak will go away eventually with use
I'm waiting on an order of silicon grease to see if it will help
I'm really disappointed in vw group quality control, the first gearbox broke, the first gear shift assembly malfunctioned and the second one is sticky and creaks.
The car has 3040km and it has not been driven hard

I have trouble selecting reverse sometimes. I have to go to 1st and then back to reverse. It can happen at anytime: from cold start, when reverse parking, etc. It used to be reverse, 1st, and 6th. Dealer readjusted the linkage and 1st has been okay so far for the few weeks since it was adjusted. I haven't had much call to be in 6th so not sure if that's resolved but reverse persists. In terms of quality in general, either standards have dropped between my previous '22 SEAT Leon and my current 4 month old CUPRA Leon or my CUPRA was built at half past 3 on a Friday. Had to get the rear lightbar replaced because it let water in, the ambient lighting flickers intermittently, and one of the rear windows keeps pinching no matter now many times the dealership has adjusted the seals or lubricated the channels.

Hi everyone
I'm coming back with another potential issue
As of yesterday when I shift from 1st to 2nd gear, immediately after lifting off the throttle there is a ''kick'' feeling on the gear lever and sometimes a clunk
The gearbox is replaced under warranty (it has about 1500km on it) and the shifter assembly is replaced too (gear lever, shift cables etc)
I've got 3300km on the car, it has not been driven hard at all and it has spent 1.5 months in the dealer service all ready
I don't know what to do with the car anymore.
I'm in constant fear that it will fail and leave me stranded again or that something will fail catastrophically

Just keep going to the dealer until all is sorted, something somewhere needs to be replaced, it’s on them or figure it out. Insist on a good loaner in the meantime
