Woohoo! :)
Just sorted it.

The problem, would you believe it, is the plastic mountings on each side of the hatch that the rear screen heating elements plug into.

I can take pics if people don't understand. I can't believe something so small can create so much noise!!

I'm supergluing mine in :D That should keep 'em still :D

BINGO.

Had a bloody annoying rattle coming from my boot too,but naturally just put it down to having quite a bit of stereo in the boot. When the bass when cranked up the rattling noise would be in time with the music, most annoying.

Anyhow, followed your lead and we have no more rattles

 DJ

:)
I'm sure everyone with a mk3 will get this at some point. Those black clips are way to loose in the holes.

I'm glad to have been of use to someone, my girlfriend keeps telling me I'm useless :D

Hi, I've just noticed the same thing, the clip on the right hand side is loose but i dont think this is making the noise, if you pull the clip out of the hole and 'waggle' it you can hear the wire knocking inside the hole. Not sure how to stop this, ive tried bending the wire away from the metal and have been driving up and down and up and down our road, neighbours are giving me some strange looks. :p

I have this noise too. Been struggling for ideas.

I also thought it was the spare wheel, or the jack and bits held within it, so ive wrapped them in a tartan rug. Will find out later if its made any difference.

But it sounds like its coming from under the car.

lol - after 2 years of ownership i've given up the hunt for all the rattles and banging! :roflmao:

I thought exactly same same but I secured the wheel and wrapped the bits in a boiler suit. Never made any difference. Infact I'm away outside just now to go shake some bits!

The noise sounds like metal hitting metal.

Only get it over big bumps in the road, sounds like somethings slighty loose under neath the car.

I thought it might be the exhaust hitting off the heat shield or something, but got it jacked up and it wasnt close enough to anything to hit.

Anyone else tried pulling out the [clips] and waggling then to see if it's the wire knocking inside the hole. I'm pretty sure this is the problem as it started just after I had the rear screen out.

I'm sure my noise is the bootlid itself. It has a bit of play in it if you push it down from outside.
Someone mentioned it on the previous page IIRC.
Going to check this out tomorrow! It's annoying the **** outa me!

Found the cause for me, the bits and bobs that sit in the spare wheel were rattling about in the holder. And the holder itself was also making noise from hitting off the spare wheel.

Put a towel between the spare wheel and the holder, and then taped all the bits and bobs into the holder. No more rattles. Woo hoo.

Mine has temporarily been cured by putting tape round the bottom tailgate latch lug.

Anyone know how to adjust these thing with the 2 allen bolts? Any idea why they have numbers on?

It's those god damn Heating element clips in the back! Superglud them and all trace of annoying rattle gone.
Also put some tape around the bar the boot lid clips to when shut to stop the knocking of the bootlid. There was a spot of play in the boot when shut!

I tried taping the clips down to see if they were the culprit, i also tried pulling them out completely and taping them to the metal, still got the rattle?? Is it worth glueing them down?

I did and it was defo worth it! glue the base itself and the burvy bit that sticks out a tad. I also found the parcel shelf knocks a bit but the clips were 98% of the sodding noise!

Mine was the slidey door on the cd changer.

Is there any technique adjusting the striker plate or is it just trial and error?
