Rattling after release of accelerator. HELP NEEDED!

Since yesterday my leon tdi has started to make a metal rattling sound normaly after iv let go of the gas whilst driving and shifting gears during the clutch down. I have took it to a garage and they said they dont know what it is as everything seems fine, and you can only hear the noise whilst driving they couldnt spot the area to focus on. Would appreciate it of anybody could help me out here!! thanks

ive got the same noise apart from mine goes when i press the clutch. its driving me crazy trying to find out whats wrong with it.

you can usually tell when it heat sheild as its a really tinny noise the uasually only appears at a certain rpm then goes away

i d the same problem, and it was the CAT heat shield, it is connected to the CAT with a few bolts, these tend to be rust prone and snap,

best solution is to have it removed.

diesels dont have heat shields connected to the cat, the 20vt petrols do.

Yours sounds like the clutch release bearing n11tht.

i will try get the heat shield checked tommorow, mines is hardly noticeable sometimes and other times when im letting it roll whilst off the gas and in gear it just rattles for a few seconds then goes. Anyone had this issue and managed to resolve it? does annoy me very badly as i only just brought it a weel ago!!

Yours sounds like the clutch release bearing n11tht.

i had this problem in an a3 2.0 tdi, it was the DMF dying

Sounds like the flywheel to me, they give a horrible rattle when there about to fail!

Wasnt able to get to the garage on time today and doubt i will be able to until mid week as im at work full days, but when i do take it down, shoudl i tell them about the rattle then tell them to take a look at the heat shield and fly wheel as advised? because normaly you just tell the whats the issue, they look at it and find from where the noise is coming the resolve but this noise only occurs whilst driving. Also i think the rattle now also happens when you turn the engine over, theres a rattle then.

Sounds exactly like what I'm having Though it's happened on my leon for a fair while now (I can only guess well over 10,000 miles as I seem to remember it happening earlier this year if not the back end of last year! So maybe even 20k..)

Mine seems to occur more when the car is facing downhill/I've just done some heavy braking to a stop - so something has shifted/is leaning forward...

i have the exact same problem , the horrid rattling sound, it happens sometimes when a turn the engine over. sounds like am starting a transit van lol, and then it will happen when im letting go of the clutch and only when in 1st and 2 nd gear and going very slowly. if i go through 1st and 2nd fast with the foot down , you don't hear the noise at all.

Yes thats all the issues im getting except mines is getting worse and no happens when im ideling and give it some revs, still not been able to take the garage but hopefuly when i do he will know be able to hear the noise for himself and find and what it is, will let you boyz know aswell when i do

Im guessing DMF is dying like others have suggested. Im in the same boat at the mo! Just waiting for a decent deal on a Sachs clutch

UPDATE - Managed to get to the garage yesterday, got it lifted on the ramps an they spotted a large crack in the small rectangular sheet of metal that placed towards where the cat normally is... the metal sheet also carries to round rubbers??? and this crack was letting the exhaust rattle and unable to secure it as normal... therefore leading the horrible rattle... I havent got it sorted yet as they said they need to order the part from seat and theyre closed during christams period.... is it worth just welding back together that metal? or just get a new one...
