Re-gas Aircon? Has anyone done it themselves?

Hiya, as per title. I reckon to get the gas and gauge is around £40 but getting it done in a garage a little bit more. Is it easy to do it yourself? Seems easy on YouTube videos but not seen for a Leon. Car is 64 plate and just want to see if I can get the aircon any colder for this current heat wave.
Ta muchly.

My old car was regassed at 5 years old by Kwik Fit for £50, so I don't really see the point in experimenting to save just £10?

Edit, I just checked and is now £59...

@stevenboot; Lots of independent places seem to charge £50 - £60. If you buy a DIY kit and it doesn't do the job, you’ll then be paying out another £50 or so to get it re-gassed.

Agree with BoomerBoom, I wouldn’t bother with the DIY kit for the sake of a few £’s.

I did my own in work midweek. However we do have a proper air con machine. I'd recommend doing it professionally as it won't cost that much more and will pressure test the system to check for any leaks ect.

There is some VCDS/OBD11 Coding that allows you to change the air con setup so that it gets cooler quicker if you have access to or know somebody with these devices.

Don't know but this is the coding

More cold in the cooler
With this mod 30% more cold in the climate control is achieved. (Thanks to Xagico)
1 - Module 08 - Electronic air conditioning / heating
2 - Extended Coding (Text)
3 - Temperature Adjustment
4 - Change value: Set colder func.refrig

see if a) you can make the change and b) if it makes any difference.

Thanks but got stuck at #2. I only have Long Coding or Adaptation, where I can modify anything. And in those I didn't find 'set colder func'. I'll have another look later and also check out the obd11 forum for more info.... Thanks again.

My bad did not update the coding the Extended Coding (text) is VCDS Speak.
For OBD11 That is long coding 0
then Temperature tuning
and on mine you have options normal tuning, colder tuning cooling operation, reserved

Does it make a noticeable difference? Do you need the pro version?

I did it a very very long time ago and thought at the time it made a difference.

But I did also read later on what it actually does is provide a boost up front so you get the car colder quicker but as its such a simple change and you can revert it give it a go and see.

I have Pro, for Non Pro I have read (but dont know) that you can do long coding but have to pay credits for it, if thats true you dont need Pro but you do need to pay.

I have just gone out to change it. Won't know if it makes a difference on manual AC systems like mine until later when I goto work. But seeing how a lot of people have done this already on the OBD11 forum, I'm guessing yes.
Also I'm expecting some change as the OBD11 actually gave the option to change things..

And yes you need the pro version of obd11 app... The free version only allows changes/mods done with built in customizations using credits

Update.. My bad miss informed.. See above post...

Thanks for the feedback Wastedagen, I am not saying non pro can, It is not clear to me some say yes some say no and I say go pro (sorry could not help myself). You are correct non pro allows you to use the apps (vs credits) but as i say I have seen somebody say you can pay to code but I have never had confirmation of that.

Just driven to work and I feel this mod hasn't changed anything on my manual AC setup. So maybe climate control is what it's aimed at...
