yeah thats illegal and also stupid, if you considering a 1.9 fr then you can afford to insure yourself on your own car properly. It works out cheaper in the long run as if you are a named driver there are very few companies who will issue you with no claims bonuses. Most policies only reward the main driver with the ncb.

That's also illegal and fraudulent...

dont commit fraud.

And I suppose you three are perfect and have never been caught for speeding, never gone over an amber light and always stop at pedestrain crossings? Sorry - forgot you were perfect!

If they can prove that I'm the one that drives it more often then fair enough - I deserve the consequences! I have another car to insure - THAT IS UNDER MY NAME AND MY INSURANCE POLICY before I get the lecture again. It's hard enough running two cars and insuring two cars on minimum wage! But hey!

I'm off to go hand myself in cos I'm quite obviously a criminal! :banghead2:  :banghead:

lol dont be like that mate we are only warning you as otherwise everyone would just insure their cars under their parents name. How come you have 2 cars though?

Seeing as you have your own car insured under your own policy that could possibly head off any chances of you getting investigated if you smash up the ibiza.

There is a big difference between fraud and driving through a amber though lol.

Because I spent a fortune on my first car and want to keep it - plus it's earning me no claims discount being in the garage!

It's hardly fraud! There's THOUSANDS of people do it! You make it sound so ****ing serious! It just pissed me off thats all. Felt like the finger was being pointed.

Plus - I work in a body repair shop. I smash my Ibiza up - I repair it.

So if its not fraud, people like me just like to give extra money to the insurance company for no reason?

It is serious if you write off your car, and have damaged properties and injure someone who decides to sue you, and then all of a sudden your insurance company turns around and says sorry, but we are voiding your policy because you gave us incorrect details. And then you have the police on your case and extremely big bills also.

Whats your first car btw?

think this thread needs cleaning up tbh. A new member wanted an answer on what car to buy and we have turned it into a insurance argument. Just hope this doesnt put the lad off coming back.

Anyway its not always like this, (well its sometimes not)

Go for the 1.4 100bhp or the tdi version? The 1.4 is plenty of power at your age, or if you want something fast but looks good, go for a late reg Arosa sport with the 1.4 100bhp in as they fly, if you get one of the last one they made they got really nice wheels in gti seats with 4 airs bags and the rest.

wondering how much it will cost to insure, im 17 and it only being insurance group 8?

any help would be great

Hey welcome to the forum buddy!

I recently got a 1.9tdi FR, using www.moneysupermarket.co.uk i got the insurance down to just over a grand. Thats being 20, 2yrs clean licence, 2yrs ncd.

My advice is keep every thing honest when it comes to insuring your new baby just in case some thing happens. I always ask myself is it worth the risk......?

Hope this helps!

Bell are probably your best bet.
My renewal in a month is set to be about £850 - That's at 19 with 1 year NCD.
Postcode has a lot to do with it though; eg, me and a mate, a while back did a test, with an LCR

Same details apart from postcode - His was a C/D rating area, mine's an A, premium on his postcode: £3200, premium on mine: £1500

yeah if you haven't already decided then go for the 1.9Tdi sport, 100bhp, very good on insurance and still quick enough with a remap! cost me and my twin brother £1000 to insure fully comp just after turning 18 with one years no claims! so not bad at all really. only group 5 insurance!

His primary question revolved around insurance though, and im sure he has learned a thing or two from the slight off topic discussion.

No wonder I pay so much my area rating is F, the worst you can get lol.

Aren't first cars supposed to be a pile of poo? Held together with duct tape and bailer twine? Then from then on in, they just get gradually better!
Why not aim your sights a LOT lower for a few years until you can get a few years no claims bonus and a bit more age behind you? You can pick up a 'disposable' car these days for a couple of hundred quid with test & maybe some tax, if it breaks down in a major way, or fails it's next MoT, chuck it away and get another, that certainly worked for me when I used to run a 'winter' car to keep my classic off the road in the winter.

(I bought a Citroen 2CV as a cheap first car twenty years ago and I've had one (often more than one) ever since, although I have other cars too aswell now)

Aww man, I'm in a group F area as well!

Someone mentioned before about moneysupermarket.com. If you use any price comparison website go to the site where the best quote is from and try directly through them as well because more than likely the comparison site will be adding something on or there'd be nothing in it for them!

Do it yourself, then by time you're 20/21, you'll have a good few years no claims behind you (if you behave yourself ;) ) in time to come.

I never even contemplated going down the named driver route when I got my first car. I was 18 and bought a 6 year old Corsa for £3100, fully comp insurance on it was £1400. Here I am, 7 years later, paying about £1000 less than that figure for my insurance. :)
