Whereabouts are you located?
Grimsby mate. I know I can resort to Scotch locking and everything but I really wanted to avoid it due to lack of experience. Last thing I want is a snipped cable. And even if I do it right it's still not guaranteed to work. So frustrating! I'd pay good money if someone put the time into sorting one.

Ah. was going to offer to pop round and show you how I'd done mine. bit far....
With Scotchloks there shouldn't be any snipped wires, if you use either the bulb method or resistors it's the same procedure. do you know any electricians who may be able to assist?
I've not had any errors since I did it, just shite LED's ...... :(

Appreciate the offer mate. Could always see but it gets down to if it's all worth it doesn't it. Haha. Il have a think and see. Thanks anyway

You don't need to snip or cut any wires or bugger up the insulation with scotch locks (better to cut the wire, solder in a your new wire and seal with heat shrink)
just extend the loom to the number plate light with to short bits of wire and four spade connectors, 2 male 2 female , put your resistor in the middle of one of them.
plug the new short bit of loom you just made into your existing number plate loom and plug the other end into your number plate light

Job done, no cut wires or scotch lock bodging and totally reversible

Thanks for your reply but I think I've found a unit that clips in and works! No errors as of yet. It is basically the full unit I had before but they've sent me much bigger resistors. I've fitted them and they work perfectly.

I have messaged the seller and said if they can list the item they sent me second time as a Leon Rear Reg Light Facelift then I can post a link on here for everyone.

They look great!

The picture shows the light a lot brighter than they are. You can easily read the registration whereas the picture suggests otherwise. But it does light up the road a tad! Haha

The bulbs in my tail lights are standard. So I guess that shows how the picture makes them look brighter! I shall try get a better picture with my camera and not my phone tonight so it's more accurate! Haha.

Images taken on a better camera

Here you go. Not quite pitch black but enough for the lights to come on when I unlocked the car. Hopefully a better view of the brightness

No faults as of yet. But haven't driven her much at night. Will keep an eye on it for a few more days. Got to be bright, don't want them dull, got to show off the private reg! Haha

Even if the photos are over exposed, that's way too bright for number plate lights IMO. There is no way they should be flood lighting the road or even coming close to doing so. In fact, having a white light source that bright and visible coming from the back of the car while travelling forwards may be an offence so I would be careful.

Out of interest, how many LEDs are there on each festoon and what is the overall rating specification of each of them? Those ones look like they're probably more suited to interior lighting applications where you do need a decent amount of light coming from them.

Hmmm.....18 LEDs does seem a little excessive for number plate lights (so 36 in total across both lights). It's no wonder it's all lit up like an FA cup final pitch :D Neon downlights spring to mind  They do look nicely made units though so it's a shame they didn't bother using some common sense about the amount of light actually needed from them.

The festoon bulbs for number plate lights don't usually have any more than 8 LEDs in and it's more common to have ones with either 3 or 6 in (albeit slightly bigger LEDs). All you actually need is enough light produced to allow the reflective surface of the number plate to do it's job and amplify that light.

The FA cup final was the effect I was going for! Haha. Nailed it!

Nah il get someone to drive it away from me when it's dark so I can see from an officers point of view! Then il judge it by that. I was open to any that worked, regardless of amount of LEDs. These were the first I've found. Fingers crossed I don't think they look too bad!

I think at that price they are worth a go

Just going to check they will take them back if i get error lights

Prior to this set was the first set they sent. They sent them with small black resistors. They were willing to take them back but I expressed if they had the right resistor then I would be happy to wait. The new set had a long chrome resistor type thing instead.

So they're good for returns it seems
