I've heard of a few Mk4 rear screens going, a small crack or chip in the right place and all it takes is a small shock and you need a new screen.
Just had a quick search and it turns out the Leons are prnoe as well

I bet your pretty hacked off, I dont think i would buy another Seat after having this one, I suppose you have just got to live with loads of faults with the car. I find it sometimes helps just going mad at the car and give it a good bang with whatever is rattling/broken etc...

I cant see how a rear window can just smash it had no chips or crack in it !!!!!! just cost me £75 can i claim this bck off seat as this is a comon seat fault ??????????
doesn't just happen in SEAT's either! Happened in a mates Vauxhall, and I know someone else who left their rear-screen heater on for a little too long too! n(with the same outcome)
I've never heard of this and its not common as far as i'm aware, i talk to alot of techs and seat dealer staff from day to day and this has never been mentioned before. if this was common then seat would issue an investigation and a recall as this is a serious safety issue.

wife just got bck from auto glass to find that they have scratched to f**ked my boot lid and mega bad the roof spoiler well pissed !!!!!!! and on closer inspection the bumper has nicks out of it due to the window smashing wel gutted 
One of my members had this happen to him also, it happened while he was driving, the rear window had now previous visible damage either. His was the mk4 also.
My problem is mainly with the windscreen though, had 4 replaced and 1 drivers side window, perhaps i drive too close to cars in-front and need to stay off Lincolnshire roads (not sure why i bother paying road tax).

as title says my wife just unlocking the car with remote opened the door and " BANG" the rear window smashed WOT A LOAD OF SH*IT seats are !!!!!!!! is this a problem with the mk4 welll pissed off
it's not a SEAT specific problem, If the boot has been closed on to something that hits the glass it becomes weakened.
happaned to me many years ago.
its happened to my mk 2 earlier this year, drove into my garage and the back window just shattered

i remember walking through a high rise car park in Liverpool, walking past a spanking new BMW an the rear screen went pop no one around or anything...crazy horses!!
