Hi Folks

Was thinking of upgrading my standard cupra filter to a 'induction kit'/filter...

Any recommendations please.. ie good prices and makes...

There are mixed opinions about what to get, ie: Induction kit for more noise (induction growl, turbo dump valve sound) or an upgraded panel filter with a smoothed air box which is a bit of a budget option but give good results performance wise. There is a handy smoothing guide on here somewhere and if you want a bit of noise, you can always drill the airbox too.

As for brands, try and find an open cone induction kit with a shield to help prevent heat soak so have a look for a Neuspeed P-FLO kit (awesome gti sell them) or perhaps a Jabba one. Make sure you don't fit a filter that is overly oiled as it might F*** up your MAF. Give it a wipe down before.

I think alot of people on here recommend Green panel filters so if this is the route you want, have a look for one.

The airbox surpresses the sound so you can't hear the engine "roar" on OEM cars. As I am sure you'll agree, an 80yr old dear isn't going to appreciate a throaty sounding Micra as much as say me & you when it comes out of the factory. Drilling it allows the sound to get out I believe but won't be as loud as an open cone induction kit.

You won't hear a wastegate noise though, 1.8t engines have a diverter valve so you get a ptshhhh sound although don't expect it to sound like a Scooby. Our engines hate completely atmospheric Dump Valves and thrive on fully recirculating Diverter Valves instead where the air is pumped back into the air system.

P.S. Cosworth's are cool! If I had the cash, I'd definitely have an Escort Cossie as a toy, you'll know what I mean if you have a go in one. Those Scooby boys have no idea what a fast 4wd is :p (in tuned form anyway, think they were 230bhp from factory)

yes they are, had may trips in the 500+bhp cosworth,

got a bmc cda on my lcr, coupled with a forge tip and forge d.v 007. did some flow rates on vag com , quick logs and got peak of 206g/s. sure with less heat build up and a fifth gear log it'll nudge 210. makes nice roar and definately flows more air than the standard box as it is quicker.

I've got a Jabbasport induction kit with heat shield. Its superb. Makes a great noise and is better insulated and better quality than the Dynatwist and the BMC CDA I had on my previous 1.8Ts. Its not the cheapest but its the best I've come across.

If you can do without the induction noise and dump valve whoosh, a green panel filter and smoothed airbox is just as good performance wise.
