Really? Mines passed x2 with the remap and just went through a few weeks ago and no mention of the decat either. (I know diesels dont have emissions test but under the new rules apparently if the car had a cat from the factory it has to be present)

lol, ive got a fail sheet somewhere froma another vehicle, i was going to scan it and make few photoshop adjustments... but hey maybe next yrs april 1st.

they won't make remaps illegal, the last thing we need is putting people out of jobs !

Im sure it will pass fine, as with all other cars with a remap however this was what was mentioned in the new MOT testing guidelines (unsure how they will enforce it or even check as all the small garages aren't going to go fork out on software to read ecu's

6.1.9 Engine performance:
(a) Control unit illegal modified.
(b) Illegal engine modification.

(by 'illegal', it is assumed that they mean changed/programmed differently from OEM specifications)

but if they mean illegal as in not standard that basically rules out any modified car and we'd lose thousands of jobs, and that means I have to go get my car detuned ?

Ask VOSA as its them who decided to change the rules
None of the new rules seem to be worded very clearly anyway so who knows what will actually happen, but what Iv copied and pasted above is what it says. Same with cars having to have a seat that can be fixed in several positions, what about track cars with fixed buckets that are still road legal? Same if youve removed your standard steering wheel with an airbag to fit a momo one or similar.

The debate really has to be about what is defined as illegal modification of the ECU. To be honest, I highly doubt a remap would fall under this. If it was, I'm sure the law would be far more specific about it, explaining what specifications cannot be changed.

I would have thought "control unit illegally modified" would refer to things like removal of speed limiters etc.

I could be totally wrong but just my 2p.

Don't they run a checksum/filesize check on mappings at the manufacturers? I think this is what they would do to detect any software alterations. The better maps will be undetectable to this anyway, I know it was one of the selling points for my APR map, sold as completely undetectable to diagnostics.

There is no section 6.1.9 in the testing guidelines?
