Removing Aircon completely

Hiy guys/gals, Anyone completely removed the Aircon from a mark 2 gti ?

The aircon is totally gone, but the aircon pump is run on the same belt as the alternator, is there any way of removing the pump and still run all belts?

There a fair whack of weight just sitting there that needs to go if i'm ever gonna wipe the smile off the 16v's hehe

you can just get a belt from a 2.0 non air con model...

ok, have you done it before? is it a shorter belt then?

yes the belt is shorter

yep, once i'm finished i shall put up pictures. I've had good experience stripping cars . well i'll get a shorter belt then and have a go with my angle grinder.

done it with both the mk2 20vt conversions i've built

compressor off and run a shorter belt, all pipework removed and even stripped down the heater box and removed the evaporator

Well i did it on saturday (bit late posting), piece of piss. Got a mountain of work till to do - new rad, new belts, new air filter, new brakes front and rear, new exahust section, service, respray the alloys and new tyres. All for the french car show so i can go on the bloody track
