Anyone done this? any side effects? Its no power house...more of a low and slow affair so not too worried about handling.

You wont notice much diffrence in the handling etc as the helpers nearly always compress fully under the load of the car, the primary function is to stop the main spring disengaging from the spring seats when you jack the car up or the driving conditions are such that the strut extends far enough to disengage the spring by itself (a little to fast over a speed hump or level crossing for example ).
So in short you wont notice much of a change, just if you jack it up you will need a second set of hands to hold the springs in line with the seat's when you lower it which is not ideal, and if you disengage them durring driving you risk going headge hunting, also not ideal!
Whats you reason for removing them? as most people dont.
