Removing gear knob advice please

Hi folks.
Can someone post some info about removing the gear knob from a Mk4 please?
I've had a look at this.

The same may apply to a 6 speed Ibiza but I'd like to be sure before I dive in and wreck something.

Just like that ...done mine twice. I would suggest replacing the clip that hold the attatchment to the stick as after you take it off it is a pain to get it back on.
I used an ordinary hose clip
