hello,

is there some solvent or chemical that can remove glue from my paint?

was washing my car, so i thought i would stick the door seal (drivers side)..back on cos it had been bugging me for months and months. stuck it on no probs, all sorted or so i thought until i shut the door. when i stuck the gasket some glue must of seeped over and it had already dried on the paint[:@]:censored::censored:

can i remove this without damaging the paint?...what a f**king **** weekend, yesterday 3 chavs racing a shite astra almost collided into me, but caught the back end ruining my bumper (which has to be sprayed now anyway)...

should i just add the door panel to the ever increasing list of things i have to get painted?....

thanks for any help given...

you can try a small piece of wet and paper
with very small movements making sure you dont move to paint

i know it works cos had to remove a badge from a friends old 350Z
after previous owner had super glued it on

you could perhaps surround the "glued area" with insulating tape so as to not damage the paint around it - just in case!

Well on the Loctite Super Glue packaging it says to use hot soapy water to unstick accidental skin bonding. It also says it's not a suitable glue for repairing items that contain hot liquids. Therefore, I reckon that if you persevere with holding a hot soapy cloth over the area it'll soften and come off. You might have to be patient and keep the water hot though, it's not going to be a quick removal option but probably the most gentle on surrounding paintwork.

WD40 is good at dissolving the sort of glue that comes off stickers, but I don't know if it works on cyanoacrylate based glues like Super Glue. If you have some of that and can't get any of the Loctite removal stuff, it's perhaps worth testing the effects on your paintwork in an inconspicuous area under the bonnet or something if the hot soapy water doesn't work?

Superglues are cyanoacrylates, the bond is an acrylic plastic. Aren't modern car paints also acrylic? If so the superglue has bonded with the paint. Test any remover on an incospicuous bit of paint first (inside a door, say, or under the boot lid)

There is probably a clear coat and a few layers of wax polish over the paint that the glue is sitting on top of.

I don't know about SEAT, but a number of manufacturers and bodyshops have changed to water-based vehicle paints now, with vastly reduced solvent useage which is therefore more environmentally friendly.

brought some autoglym tar remover today...someone in halfrauds recommended it...gonna give it a go now...dont think it will work tho.....'i see trouble ahead..lalalala'.....an expensive spray job methinks...

well i tried the tar remover, and boiling hot water but tbh it helped get the dull yellowy glue out a bit, but that aint shifting for no man....may just bite the bullet- if it needs spraying anyway may just get the nail polish remover on it...got nothing to lose.....

acetone will clear it clean off, and the paint.

why not take it to a bodyshop? if you're willing to pay

Yes, that's what worries me, acrylic paints are water-based.
