Hello guys,

Some of you may know from reading this:

LCR Build Thread

My spark plug melted whilst I was on track and it has dropped the ceramic through the piston, potentially causing unholy amounts of damage.

Car is with the garage now for analysis.

However, the worst case scenario would be that the engine has to be replaced.

Where the hell do I find working BAM engines under 100K?

Also, with whatever engine I do end up getting I want to do some upgrades whilst access is easy.

Rods for sure:

Thinking these Intergrated engineering rods? Link

Now because this has happened, I hadn't planned my other engine upgrades yet. Was supposed to be a next year project.

What else will I be wanting to upgrade?

Cheers Guys, Ash

check your tune and other defective items if the motor allowed itself to melt stuff.

im going to say this before others do. delete your last post and go do some reading on how a turbo charged engine works. just the comment on intercoolers is not quite right.

Like this? So when I said intercooler I really meant fan on the radiator?

Eitherway, the engine never got into any dangerous heat ranges on the gauge.

Have you actually got any advice? Bill said check the Map, but that is standard. What other check could I do to avoid this issue again in the future?

Cheers, Ash

Also. No one has pointed me in the direction of preloved BAM engines... pretty please.

I guess you meant radiator not intercooler..

anyhows.. things which can cause carnage, lean running, by poor map or inadequate fuel supply (weak pump etc), incorrect tuning, be it boost, ign, leading to excessive egts, poor quality fuel...

any and all can contribute to the problem.

BAM engine is nothing special.
Dont get suckered into "bam tax"

You need a smallport engine, you are changing rods anyhow? so any 210/225 engine will do as donor for same compression. Swap bits from damaged engine as required.

expect to pay £200-£300 for full 1.8t engine from breakers as a donor.

Once rebuilt, get it checked out properly to diagnose what cause the problem...

Cheers for the advice guys.

How does the mileage of the engine affect the car? Is the mileage of the car whatever the mileage of the engine is?

I will get looking for a donor engine. I had no idea they were so cheap!

I would imagine that price would be for the basic block and head with out the extras! You will need to swap everything else from the damaged engine! im not sure what you mean by the "is the mileage of the car whatever the mileage of the engine is"?

The mileage of the car is the mileage of that chassis/VIN number. The mileage remains the same when a new/replacement engine is fitted.
Not sure if you have to notify DVLA of the new engine number, someone else probably knows.

Yes, this is what I meant. Cheers for the info.

Anyone have a look at that engine? just put an offer in for it.

I just bought this: Link

What do we think? I use this car for 300 miles a week and plan to use it hard on track on occasion. I like that the bottom has done very few miles. VVT can be swapped out from the old head hopefully. Or is it even necessary to replace it?

Where can I get a decent baffled sump? Something I've been needing for a while...

Fingers crossed this all works out.
