I filled it today with super unleaded, got it nice and hot and ragged it! still no nice exhaust tones, so during a bit of skiving at work today I looked more into it.
Seems the SC and the 5 door have the same exhaust and can make the nice pops and crackles but the ST has got another silencer on each exit which seems to be killing it, disappointed as Vagsport could say this about the ST and I could have put the money towards a non resonated cat back.

I had read about this issue with the ST also...

However on my ST280 I’ve only had my Res Delete on for 100 miles and I get pops and crackles on overrun and hard acceleration sounds great. And even though it’s a manual, I can get a nice ‘crack’ sound when I rev it and lift off suddenly.

I’ll post a video tomorrow after I take it for a run...

That would be great to hear yours so I know what mine should be like after that kind of mileage (fingers crossed)

Not a problem - I don’t know if it matters, but I didn’t use a VAGSport kit. I had my exhaust place cut the resonator out and attach a straight pipe of stainless in.

No drone whatsoever and sounds epic when it should.

Try zaustworxs res delete. I have one on my ST.

Had a go with the vagsport but I found the increase in diameter to 76mm then step back down to 65mm just attenuated the frequency creating a nice low growl at tick over and sounded like cupra mode on acceleration however it creates very muted dsg upshifts and drone at around 70-80mph which was a real let down and caused me to remove it.

Zaustworxs one is slightly smaller 63mm, the drone is very low at 70-80mph but quite noticeable on tick over in sport mode not so in comfort. The acceleration noise is not as loud.
However overrun cracks and pops are quite noticeable and the dsg cracks are brilliant always brings a smile to my face. Sounds slightly louder than a stock hatch. Bit more grown up IMO.

Here’s a comparison between the two with the vagsport on the left and zaustworxs on the right. Both made from stainless. Bare in mind I had just cleaned the vagsport one. These are my personal opinions nothing against vagsport there work is amazing, just doesn’t work well for the ST and the price is just too much for what is basically a stainless pipe.

What do you mean by this?

The res is designed to take out the sudden shockwaves from the exhaust, and isn’t actually as restrictive as you think. It’s just a long tube with holes punched into which are the size of frequency of the drone. Behind this is wadding to absorb the soundwave (pressure wave). Below is inside a res of a 4drive cupra.

However once removed these will now travel to the back box which is a lot more restrictive and as such never designed to take such sudden pressure change, so eventually the metal baffles will be vibrated/flexed and thus fatigued beyond there limit. As the metal starts to break down they will develop larger holes than the sound wave coming at them. At this point you will probably have the wadding material coming out of the exhaust. And a silly loud exhaust.

Hope that makes sense.

Mrs just dropped me off and put her foot down up the road, car is much louder than it sounds from the inside driving it!

Just goes to prove that more expensive isn't always better
Thanks for the replies aswell guys, give it some more time to break in, if it doesn't go well I'll start again but just go non resonated cat back and sell the Vagsport pipe to help pay for it
I'll get the wife to drive it and see if it's the same as you Mysteryblue

I have the zaustworx double delete on my 280, sounds awesome especially with how muted it was standard.

As above mines is manual too and can make great pops and bangs depending on when u lift off. Works best when wet and you time it with the TC kicking in.

I recorded a cold startup this morning using my phone stood on a box and it does sound really good (vagsport res delete)

I don’t hear this from the inside (I have the soundaktor off too)

Think I may need to get someone to film from the outside
