Just a quick question, how long roughly did your belt take to do? gonna do mine soon but aint done one on a 20v turbo yet so just want a rough time?

Yeah it took me 4 hours replacing everything, when I come to retime it hopefully it should only take a couple of hours.

Good luck hope it goes well, double check and triple check that all markers align at tdc after you have fitted the belt or you will have to do the lovely enjoyable not at all frustrating job again.

Hopefully I'll get it right this time!

My engine light came on last night with fault code p0340, I take this is due to the belt being out, just wondering why it didn't come on 500 miles away.

The belt I've got on is a genuine belt, I spent £300 on parts. I've just ordered a contitech belt from euros

Fitted my 2nd cambelt/tensioner & waterpump to the 20vt last friday, (cambelt due april and spat its waterpump last week)

a good old bottle of tippex means you cant get it wrong.

I still think timing off the fly and cam is always a bit hit and miss, If the old belts timing is perfect just mark cam to belt and crank to belt with tippex before removing and transfer the marks to the new belt counting the teeth between, if you fit the marks in the same location it cannot be wrong,

just covers your arse as well as using the cast marks etc.

guess i did well for £97 quid for a waterpump, H/Damper, and Gates belt kit w tensioner!

That's what I did and it still was a tooth out even know all my markings lined up. Oh well will give it a go at the weekend! I didn't use the flywheel mark, I used the cam and crank and put two markings on the crank and one on the pulley. Hopefully 2nd time lucky!

That's well cheap! Don't think I'll go genuine seat next time at £300!

very strange, i cant understand why it would be out, as long as the tension clockwise of the cam pulley over the waterpump and crank is the same and the marks lined up that is.... crank to jockey wheel and tensioner has no effect,

leasts its not a bad ending!, few couple more teeth out and it'd be valves dancing on pistons!

Yeah at least it's all still intact for another try. I even had 2 other technicians with over 40 years experience to help me with it and check my timing as it's my first belt and they ok'ed it.
