Retrofit auto dim rear view

Just been on to the dealer and the mirror is now wait for it ............... £171.00 !!!!
Not getting one of those !!

Just got an A3 one from the scrap yard does any one know the wire colours for the connections as I do not want to burn it out connecting the wrong wires to live and earth. I only want the sidelight live and the earth I'm not bothered about the reverse feed or the mirror feed.

What did you pay at the scrap yard?

any pictures of the mirror and the loom you have - also did you cut the loom of the A3?

Paid £20 for the mirror, part of the loom and the middle black sun visor.
I'll load some pictures tomorrow when its light.

Just found this info on another site regarding the the wiring
A3 loom
Black with Blue trace +12v (sidelights)
Brown -12v
Blue with Red trace +12v Reverse feed
Spare wires for +12v feed to door mirrors (no good on tear drop mirrors as the glass is not available)
Mirror Plug
White +12v
Black -12v
Light Blue +12v Reverse Feed

I haven't tried this yet but I'll check this in the morning and let you all know.

Got the thing wired as per the above but it doesn't seem to be working..........
Does anyone have the wiring diagram / colour codes for the A3 auto dimming mirror it is the donelly type .
Looks like £20 wasted DAM !!

Ive got one as standard in my leon and its very good indeed. Im not sure how much they are though. I would say no less than £100 though from a dealer.

Ash I wonder if I can retro fit one like yours with the red LEDs underneath but in black instead of the cream/beige ?

Mine came as standard, oh yes and the rain sensing wipers.

I think mine has rain sensing wipers. If i put it on one click up then they wipe, and the heavier the rain the faster they go. I had them on my 306 but you could see the sensor but i cant on the leon, where is it? Cheers.

John - I would say so mate, i will have a look and see where the wires connect to. TBH it should only be a live and earth unless the rain sensing unit is in there aswell. If you couldnt get one in black, im sure you could spray it

Its behind the rear view mirror its a black circle, which you can clearly see from out side the car. (I painted mine black)

was thinking about putting this on too, but seeing as i have rear tinted windows iam not sure how effective it would actually be as the tints block most heavy light

Thought so. On the 306 there was like 2 little rectangles and at night, if you put auto wipe on, you can see very dim red light. Wonder if its the same on the leon, might have to have a look. How did you spray it bud? Did you just mask the glass, lights, sensor, etc.. up and spray? Also did you sand all the bumps off it first? Cheers

Just took it out, took the mirror to pieces lightly sanded it plastic primered it, sprayed it black and put it all back together, i didn't totally flatten the slight texturing of the plastic, no need really.

Hi! Just bought a GENTEX autodimming mirror with only two wires, ground and +12. Any idea where to best attach them in the fusebox? Mk1 Leon

Solved: Grounding wire goes on the earth terminal (10 mm nut) under the driver's side cover, and the self crimping fastener attaches to the thin yellow 75x terminal also under the driver's side cover. 5 minutes to hook up.
