Reversing my other half's A4 onto the drive the other night made me realise how much easier it is with two reasonably bright reversing lights, as opposed to one crap one (as per the Leon)...

Has anyone tried upgrading the bulb - LED or otherwise - to give a little more output? If so, what worked best?

I realise it's really more of a signal for others than to light up the road behind, but it'd be nice to get a little extra brightness for when reversing in absolute darkness.

I've noticed the same thing with my FR!!! Our drive is quite dark anyway and its a nightmare backing out with only one bulb! It kinda annoys me a bit how a car like the leon doesnt have 2!!! If we didnt have to have a rear fog light by law im guessing that would be our second reverse bulb!

So basically no one will crash into you in thick fog but chances of backing into something in the dark is much higher! Hmmm!

alright shrimp, i had similar thoughts so bought this: http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/CREE-Q5-P...arts_Vehicles_CarParts_SM&hash=item5198fa0112

Its a fair bit brighter, still not super but a damn site better than the standard crap. And its been in 6months no errors or failure yet. Sometimes it flashes as I unlock the car as the lights come on, probably cos of the voltage being sent through it to test its working, so gives a cool effect without meaning to :D

I'm glad I found this post, I was literally just today discussing with a friend whether there were better bulbs available. Reversing out of my drive is really hard in the dark - I'm sure the reversing lights on my Mk 1 Cupra were way better than on the Mk 2.

Post back here what they're like, standard one is useless, although it has taken me four years to care.

The pic on eBay looks a bit, erm, bright?

Fitted my bulb this evening; it is an improvement, the light pattern is round and not quite as wide as the standard, but definitely brighter.

First and third pics are the standard 21W bulb.

Fitted mine today, vast improvement. Just to confirm Paulkis' comments, here are my before and after shots (car is about 18 feet from the garage).

Nice catch Graham
