When u put ur foot to the floor u can feel a kinda button that when pressed will "kick" the gears down to the gear that will give u the best accelration

I dont uses this as i find it kicks down a gear to far

Oh right yeah that does sound quite annoying actually, but I guess you can just use the paddles to change down to the gear you want to be in rather than using that - but doesnt it happen automatically when you put your foot to the floor?

Yes thats what the kick down switch is for, every 'auto' box has one.

Advanced or not, once there out of warranty some people are going to get some massive honking bills to replace them.

Assuming they will need replacing. Three years or so using them and only replaced one so far and some done some pretty high miles.

They have been fitted to the Golf GTI since 2005. I had DSG on my last Mk5 GTI. Some people have had mechatronic unit failures, which is an expensive bill, but these have mostly been picked up under warranty.

Agree, but the technology is tried and tested as you well know. The scale of DSG boxes sold compared to failures is minimal. And, we can extend our warranties for 2 years after if we need to.

True the wet DSG gearbox is tried and tested, the dry one however is still in its infancy really and works quite differently.

I imagine the extra weight and cost of the DSG fitted to the bigger cars is the reason for fitting this one?
