Roof bars

Hello,
Just got my new forementor and really happy with the car! I used to use a suction mounted bike rack for my Audi A5 but wanted to make use of the roof bars that come on the Forementor. Does anyone know what size I need or recommend some bars for me to get, I want them to be easily removable as only want to use them for when I need to take my MTB somewhere. I’ve never had roof bars so don’t know much about them.
Thanks

I contacted Thule direct to see what's available as have the older alu aerobars and usually just change the 'footpack' when I change cars. He's what they said:
Hi

At the moment we don´t have a roofracksystem available for your car. Our testcentre is testing solutions as we speak.
If and when a roofracks system will be available I cannot say.

Keep an eye out on the website for updates.

Kind regards

However, there are universal Thule fittings for roof rails (with a flexible strap arrangement). It's the Thule 775 footpack. You just need to ensure the bars to suit are long enough to cover the width of the car. I've a couple of roof bars of differing lengths so should be OK. Hope that helps.

Alternatively there is the Seat option here:

Thanks for that info, they don’t give much info on the seat roof bars which is annoying. I think I will send them an email to try get more details as I did want branded ones so I know they will hold up and fit a bike rack how I intend to fit it. Cheers

A "Branded" SEAT / CUPRA roof bar/cylcle carrier will, with very little doubt in my mind, be made for them by Thule AND be more expensive.

I’ve ordered the one from the link in the thread already, it was out of stock so taken a few weeks to arrive but will be coming on Monday. I will put some pictures in here as they give you limited information on what you are actually buying when you get the official ones. I’m hoping they are Thule as I’ve just gone for the 598 pro bike rack so would be nice to have matching

I’m a bit of a novice on transporting bikes, what would you need on top of the roof bars to fit two bikes?

You’d need to buy 2 bike racks to go on the bars, I went with Thule bike rack but there are a lot of brands

Me too.

Kids have both just moved up bike size, so the eldest's not longer fits in the boot of our current Peugeot 3008. The Formetor's boot is smaller still, so keen to be able to cart the bikes around on a roof rack, ideally, one that we may be able to use on another car in future.

is a 35Kg bike (it’s an electric retro cafe racer job, so weight saving not important) going to be too heavy?

I think the roof limit is 75kg but will the weight of the roof bars also.

You’d have to check the bike rack limit, i think they are normally rated too 25kg so the electric bike would be too heavy. A tow bar bike rack might be more convenient in that case

Not sure, think you could do it but I’d get it fitted by a professional for peace of mind. I wish I’d specced mine with a removable towbar when I ordered. I don’t think it’s cheap which is annoying but would be safer than having a heavy bike on the roof. I’ve used the tow bar racks on my friends cars and they are the most convenient way of taking bikes, especially if you want to take more than 1.

Im sure there is a guy who’s on one of the FB groups had a retractable towbar fitted to his car by the main dealer ( Think it might have been Seat/Cupra Stockport).

He has a VZ edition and the towbar was fully integrated.

I just measured my bike and boot space with folded seats. I think it will fit. Have to test it, when it's not raining. If not, will consider roof bars too. I have VAG bike rack with the lift.

So, looking at all these bars, am I understanding correctly that Seat one and cheapest Thule one doesn't support accessories fixed using t-slots?

I don't have experience with roof accessories.

The cheapest is just a square section, so no T slots. There are decent secondhand (barely used) ones on eBay 😉. Difficult bit is ensuring they fit the car, but now we know hehe
