Rusty Wheel Hubs

Hi all,

Have got my 2 week old leaon Fr with slight rust spots on the front hubs (only a few), is there anything I can put on the hubs to prevent the rust as I do not want to be painting them just yet as they are not really bad. Prevention is better than cure! any suggestions??

Thanks

Finally painted them myself

I made mention of my rusty hubs way back in March and I'm glad to hear some of you more tenacious guys have managed to get your stealers to fix, but alas not me.
I could not put up with the awful look any longer so spent a couple of days rubbing down and using alloy wheel spray paint from Halfrauds.

Here are a couple of before pics (terrible state ) !! and the car was only 12 months old !!

This is a finished wheel and the others are pretty much the same. Not the most professional job but it's better than they were.

BTW does anyone in the Kent area know of somewhere that can fix alloys and match the andromeda wheel colour ? Mrs M managed to make a good job of the nearside front at a drive through the other day aghhhhhhhhhhh !!

All 4 of mine are rusty and it looks awful. I went back to dealer that I bought car from today and they took photos to send to Seat UK so am now waiting to hear what they decide.

I think you are wasting your time, I did the same and even contacted Seat Customer Care about repainting my hubs under a goodwill gesture but they refused so I bought some heatproof paint (Hammerite is not good enough) off ebay and did it myself. The paint was expensive but it covered well and it's been on for about 3 months and there is no sign of rust yet. I prepared the hubs well, removing ALL traces of rust before painting and the total time spent for all 4 hubs was only around 2 hours. The time spent was well worthwhile as the rusty hubs were making my 18" alloys look sh*te!

Ah ok. I am not really happy to paint the hubs myself but have found a local company who will do the hubs and also paint the calipers. However will this affect the warranty on the car at all.

I gave SEAT customer care a real reprimand when they tried to fob me off and after some chasing, they agreed to repaint them FOC.

(It did help that I pointed it out to the dealer when I collected the car and complained on the spot.)

They look like new now.

My advice is simply don't accept this, - it's a known manufacturing defect...do not accept no for an answer. :starwars:

I just spoke to Seat Customer care and they advised me that the hubs would only be covered under warranty if there was a manufacturers defect. Apparently the pictures taken today by the dealer would be sent to Seat technical and they would decide.

I was also informed that if the hubs are not covered and I want them put right they recommend the work be carried out by a Seat dealership.

Its such a shame as the car itself is stunning but it looks like the wheel hubs are about 10 years old. Only had the car 6 months, this is disappointing.

I feel for you mate, it's not on.
They need to explain why they are not painted properly in the first place like on Honda's...

Spoke to SEAT as they have refused to paint them under warranty [:@]

Looks like I'll be doing it myself.

I contacted my dealer regarding the rusty hubs.
Seat would not do anything under warranty - but the dealership has offered -me to bring in my Cupra - they will take off the wheels -send the hubs and discs off to be stripped and eletroplated - returned and fitted on the car.
Bearing in mind postage of the discs and timescale - they have said around 7days - in which time they are happy to lend me a car, which the work is being done.
Althuogh I have to foot the bill for the work -

I think it shows good customer service by the dealership - to a problem that Seat won't do anything about.:-o

hondas are the same the hubs are **** I had to paint my ep3 and fn2 [:@]
hammerite paint is fine I have used it and never had problems.
hammerite direct to rust is what you need and a wire brush full cost £7.00 and 4hours out your life not £100 :-o

It must depend on which Honda model we are talking about.

I have just spent the morning cleaning my Girlfriend's Honda Accord Tourer, and after 6 years the hub flanges are fine, - because they are painted with Hammerite or similar.

New Civics are the same ... pity VAG don't wake up and do something similar...
