your missunderstanding this thread. its about wheel hubs, the part of the car that the disks, wheels etc are fitted to, not the disks. disk brakes are made of exposed metal eith no covering on them and always rust, they rust in a few hours and aren't a problem. the hubs are painted and are not meant to rust but are on my seat and many others.

I know what part you mean. As I have painted mine.
It's just different people call them different things.

As a matter of interest whats the best paint to use????????

Harrarite (sp?) smooth is good and seems to stay on ok.
I found it best to apply plenty of it with a high quality brush. Two coats seemed fine. It does take a few days to dry though. Even after 24 hours, rain will cause water marks on it.

I have today had a phone call from Seat UK after reviewing my case about the rust problem. They have agreed to have my car back at a dealer and have them cleaned up and repainted and no expense to me. This is a result as far as I'm concerned and rightly so. After my original letter of complaint and photos they refused to except responsibility and I was seeking legal advice. The case was reviewed at management level and at the head office in Spain.
Seat uk state that is a customer goodwill gesture only and not admittance of fault. However I now believe this now sets a precedence as in case law and opens up the gates for other claims. They state every case will be looked at individually on its own merit. They also state that the management in Spain are now aware and something might be done to stop inferior quality parts leaving the factory. Victory is sweet ! Tim

that is great news. Can you confirm what the process was that you went through please, e.g. what address you complained to, what range and selection of photographs you sent to them and if there were any other details they requested? That way we can all follow the same pattern and hopefully get the same results.

Congrats on getting a victory. hope they do a better job of the repair than the manufacture!

If you and others go back through these pages I've posted up the required action and address etc. The photos consisted close up pics of the rust damage with the wheels on and I just printed them off and posted with the letter of complaint . Just make sure you state the 'Sales of Goods Act' this can be found on the net. All the info is on the previous pages. Good luck to you and others, if I can help further just ask.

This is my first post here so hi everyone.

I've been looking into swopping my TDI 150 Alfa 147 for a TFSI FR recently, that's how I found this forum. Out of interest my 3 year old 147 has factory painted disk wheel hubs, they seem to be coated with some sort of thick white anti rusting paint. I've never liked the look of the white paint, they are still rusting a bit though even after the treatment.

With so many people running large spoke alloys now this will be an increasing issue, I don't see whay SEAT can't coat their hubs at the factory.

There's no F in Quality..
Not directed at yourself in particular, but... what the hell are you all trying to achieve?? This is a consumable part, its unfortunate but half the reason is probably to do with the composition of the metal the discs are made from, as an engineer I could probably knock some discs up made from bright steel that wouldn’t rust – the properties of these would be crap for brake discs though!!

.What do you want??? Seriously????????????

There isn’t yet a do all metal that I’m aware of, though if its that bad I’m sure someone can make some carbon rotors and stainless hub mounts if you have all got a couple of grand to spare???

Just been reading this thread from the first post, and have been thinking exactly the same as the above poster..... the bit you're all saying is rusting is actually part of the brake disc, and therefore will have no anti-corrosion properties at all.

ALL of my previous Seats (Mk2 and M3 Ibizas, Mk1 LCR) have all had the same 'trait', whereby the bit of the brake disc that isn't scrubbed clean by the brake pads, goes rusty......

If you don't like it, then get the tin of hammerite out ;)

All of the other manufacturers people have been quoting, who supposedly paint their hubs, probably do, but it's not the same part that people have posted pictures of on here.... you will probably find that if you remove the brake disc off your Leon, the hub behind will actually be painted.

Just my 2p's worth.

Done 15k in her now & still the hubs look like the day I collected her almost 8mths ago.

I've never used wheel cleaner on her, just hot water & shampoo.

Wheel cleaner is the cause I bet..........

Na thats wrong as i have NEVER used an alloy wheel cleaner on my 18" just Autoglym Shampoo...........

Its just cheap materials used by the VAG group.......

SEAT Rang me this week to confirm that they have agreed to have mine fixed too.

My local dealer just contacted me and are going to get them painted next week.

SEAT say that each case is judged on Merit (like Tim 1505 said) but agreed there was a problem that the Martorell factory are now talking to VW about.

My advice if you have this problem is NOT to accept it, - these things aren't cheap, but credit to SEAT for doing the right thing ... even if it took them 6 weeks to sort it. :)

Jedi - Which dealer are you taking yours into to have the work done ?...as I notice you're in Cheshire and I also have the same problem on all 4 wheels..:headhurt:

I'm thinking if they've had it agreed by Seat to repair other cars under warranty it may prove easier to get my done at same dealers also...:D

yep , Mine developed rusty hubs too
I asked at the dealers and they said it happens to all cars one time or another.
It was so unsightly that I removed the wheels cleaned off the hubs and painted them with a silver smooth finish hammerite for less than a tenner inc brushes and cleaner .
That was six weeks ago and they still look great .:D

Rusty hubs

Congratulations,
I hope many of you can resolve this with your dealers ,however if the dealers just cleaned them up did they seal them with a heat resistant laquer or something ?
Problem with me is the dealers are 20miles away so its just not cost effective to take the car their for inspection then return again to do something about it ,plus 20quid to transfer insurance to a courtisy car, when the job took one hour to complete at home for a tenner and I was able to inspect the tyres on both sidewalls ,check shocks for signs of leakage, give the wheels a really good clean and clean and paint the outer edge of the discs which looks really good .
Also my doctor says I have high blood pressure ,so frequent trips to my local SEAT service centre should be avoided.

Took my '07 cupra to the dealers last week to have the offending bits painted with heat resistant silver paint courtesy of Seat Uk. The job was completed the same day and it looks great. Hopefully no further problems and rightly rectified after a short process of letter writing and photos etc. Well done Seat for doing the right and honourable thing, my advice to all is to get writing/ringing and persist until its sorted. Good luck.

I had my hubs rectified by my dealer last week, they removed the disks, masked them, sandblasted then repainted the hubs.

Looks great now ! :D

I am glad I persisted with this, - everyone should really bring this issue to the dealer's attention as soon as it becomes apparent.

:(Took mine to the dealers today as the car was due its 10K service.

They did try to clean them up a bit, but said they weren't allowed to repaint them under warranty.

Apparently SEAT had said that since it will have no impact on the performance of the brakes, there is nothing that they will do. :(
