S3 (Mk1) gear-knob fit LCR?

Has anyone fitted a S3 Mk1 gearknob in a LCR - I assume it's a like-for-like swap, as per Pab's 'Gearknob Replacement' post?

Does the gaiter also need to be changed?

FYI: the S3's gearknob (black leather, without the LCR's paint-flaking plastic rim) is £25ish at Audi dealers (which seems an unusually fair-price for an Audi part).

Thanks :)

S3 knob say "S3" don't it?....

I've looked in an '03 S3's cabin & there's no S3 logo on the 'knob (maybe there is on the Mk2?); the only inscription is 'R, 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6', in the same H-layout as the LCR's.

The S3 knob costs £22.63 (incl VAT) & includes the gaiter (black leather), fitting clips etc. So, f*** it! For that money it's worth the punt - I've ordered one & will report back if it fits.

The only downside I can forsee is that the S3 knob's H-insignia is white-ish silver, not red like the LCR's. Still, it's got to be better than a gearknob with a worn, white plastic rim...

S3 gearknob arrived today. It's brand/logo-free & looks great, a cool piece of design - simple, elegant, nicely made & the gaiter is much-better quality leather compared to the LCR's.

Will it fit? Yes, but you'd need to detach the S3's gaiter from its rectangular base/bracket (unhook clips & remove some staples) & re-attach to the LCR's.

However, there's a 'but': in isolation, the S3's knob/gaiter appear to be black, but when in an LCR's cabin, you then notice that the S3 knob/gaiter is actually dark grey. And when compared to the the LCR's (very) black leather steering wheel, the S3 knob looks really grey.

****! ****! ****! [:@]

Thought it was all too good to be true.

Next!

Thanks, but fella in parts dept at Audi dealership has offered to refund.

Anyway, I'm not quite finished with the S3 knob experiment. I've had a brainwave (but not sure if idea is  or :fool:) & will report back, if it works...

Update: in short, the S3's (Mk1) gearknob is not a straight swap with a LC/LCR's.

Thought I could get away with dying the S3 grey 'knob/gaiter with black shoe-leather dye... However, the S3's 'knob will not detach from its gaiter, nor is it possible to attach the S3 'knob & gaiter to the LC/LCR gaiter's 2-piece rectangular base/bracket - it's glued, not clipped together.

Instead, I've fitted the round-shaped SEAT Sport leather & aluminium 'knob (thanks to Pabs for his guide). RRP is £95 (erk!), but I got mine from SERE for £70 (incl VAT & P&P, next day deliv). Not cheap, but it's a precision bit of kit (manufactured by Momo) made of quality leather & solid aluminium - & looks a zillion times better than my worn OE 'knob.[B)]

A classic case of YGWYPF?
