Hi Everyone.

AUQ 1.8t engine. Removed standard oil cooler and fitted a Mocal remote thermo sandwich plate. Together with the shorter oil feed pipe.

Oil is pouring out between filter and rubber seal.

Any ideas what I'm doing wrong? Filter is as tight as I can get it by hand.

Have you checked the flilter is the correct one for this plate?
Had you shown up the filter to ensure there was a sealing face on the plate where there was a seal on the oil filter?

Thanks for the replay Willie.

I'm going to take the thermo plate off and check. But the thread matches the oil filter and the rubber seal is the same size as the filters.

Which filters do people use?

Cheers mate. Thanks for your help.

I need to pop down to GSF the weekend anyway to get some more oil as quite a bit went on the floor. Also low pressure oil sender to go with the Rover dials (high pressure one on oil filter housing don't work with Rover dials).

Yeah tried that mate.

Right might have a clue. I might have been a numpty. But need someone to confirm.:D

I might have put the sandwich plate upside down. I mated the rubber seal of the sandwich plate to the rubber seal of the oil filter.

Is this right?

:banghead2

No. Even I can tell that. The way you have it, there is no seal between the sandwich plate and the filter bracket.

First time I put the sandwich plate on while on the engine stand. Engine was upside down. Though it would make it easy to put on the baffled sump and sandich plate.

So excited, did not think there was a "way round" to put the sandwich plate.

So just confirming to a numpty.

The rubber seal on the sandwich plate goes to the oil filter housing on the engine. The other end with no seal goes to the filter.

I know. There's always one!

Even sealed the sandwich plate to the oil filter housing with the sump VW sealant!

Thanks for all you help guys.

on mine sandwich gasket goes engine side, leaving the new filter gasket on tutherside. should be no gasket to gasket join, just one eitherside:)
