Superb thread, just read the whole thing.. lol !

My 2p -

I have cats, they are house cats... stay in, get exercise, fed watered, warm... no problem. But these cats have ALWAYS been house cats. My sis in law has wild cats, they roam all over the place...can't be controlled. I think as a cat owner you need to be responsible for your cats damage IF as said it can be proved.

As for kicking cats off land, thats plain stupid, thats what results in £300 pet bills, or cats being put down due to broken tails/backs. My Mrs loves our cats.. me... well, they're pretty cool... but at the same time I could live without them.... BUT if one was injuryed purposfully by another human, I would lose it for sure... which I can tell you is not a pretty site :D Thankfully this can't happen as ours stay in, so I stay out of prison lol!

I would of thougth MOST cat scratches would polish out with some proper TLC, if they are that bad... well.. I think the scented wax is your best bet.

I had a similar kind of problem on our estate, one of my neighbours let her dog **** all over my grass to the side of my property, once they did it, it seemed cats from all over decided it was a good poo spot. I put a polite letter through those neighbours doors I know own dogs... and thankfully it seems to of done the trick.. but if the cats continue to poo there... there is sod all I can do, bar scoop it up!

Perhaps do the bonnet this time, but put a polite note through the door, asking them to keep a look out, or alternatively sit and squirt the bugger for like a week after you get home... they'll soon learn. Thats how they recommend training cats.
