No sure where you're getting no SCR from for the 1.6tdi but some at some point they started to fit it!

Our 2020 1.6 has SCR

I also have a Leon with the 1.6 tdi and to be honest its a very good engine and awesome mpg in the Leon high 60's on a run and round town low 50's

The Ateca 1.6 dsg isn't as good on mpg although we have had that remapped its actually a little better on fuel since the remap. the wife manages mid 60's on her run to work but mostly its around 50-55 max

A remap certainly helps on the 1.6 to get them moving

Yes the launch 1.6 tdi back in 2016 didn't have SCR so somewhere along the line they fitted it. That was the selling point then for people frightened with SCR take the 1.6 over the 2.0. It was cheaper. No adblue was required but they didn't advertise that with the 2.0. There was campaign against SCR, Honest John and all that.

The launch engines in 2016 on the Atecas since I left it a bit hanging plus the gear box fitted.

Hello again, it's been a while and at some point I'd gave up on buying Ateca but lately I've been looking more intensively again for second hand Ateca in good condition. But most of them are with 1.5 TSI engine, or 1.4 TSI 4drive which I would like to avoid because of potential issues with haldex and unnecessary higher fuel consumption. Interesting thing is that there are plenty of Atecas with 1.0 TSI engine and they are much less expensive than 1.5 tsi and of course 2.0 tdi or 1.6 tdi. I know 1.0 tsi has 116hp in prerestyle and 110hp in restyle model and also GPF and 3 cylinders in both variants. I'm not sure do version from the start of production (2016-2018) 1.0 tsi engine have GPF and is there any issues with it. On the paper 1.0 tsi doesn't give me confidence in its reliability and durability. But maybe I'm wrong. What do you thing is 1.0 tsi any good for Ateca?

Well the 1.0 litres in an Arona with DSG works perfectly well. Perky. Pass on how it performs in the Ateca. Probably not so well. With a manual gear box you'd be stirring it more. The haldex works well on my 2.0 diesel, haven't had any issues. The launch Xcellence at 2.0 diesel came with 4 drive and leather seats. They only got sold in that spec. The seating wasn't so comfortable on the lesser mortals, not Xcellences. I can only talk for diesels on the Ateca.

When deciding to change my Leon FR I looked at a few Ateca FRs but bought a Skoda Karoq SEL because of its higher spec. However, the Karoq was more expensive than the same age & mileage Ateca. There were more Karoqs than Atecas to chose from. However, I was looking at cars from 18 to 24 months old.

The Ateca had a more sporty ride & the Karoq didn't handle quite as well but was more comfortable. Both on 18" wheels with the 1.5TSi (148hp) engine & DSG.

It seems that many more Karoqs were sold than Atecas, so there are 5 times as many Karoqs on used car ads or Atecas are so much better that their owners have a harder time deciding to sell them :) Although the Karoq has a lot more cabin space and feels better built, the Ateca is in my opinion a far more attractive car. Also used Karoqs are far more expensive than Atecas. As I already said, there are quite a few Atecas with 1.0 TSI engines at significantly lower prices than those with 1.6 tdi, 2.0 tdi and 1.5 tsi engines. Is the 1.0 TSI engine that bad compared to the others or simply too weak for the Ateca?

The later I'll pass on. I was going to suggest you do the power to weight ratio of the Ateca v Arona with the 1 litre engine. That will give you an idea. On the Arona DSG DQ200 it's perfectly adequate. I guess the sporty Seat drivers on the Ateca get seduced by the more powerful engine to throw it around. Arona DSG 1 litre can be thrown around on quite hilly roads but if you eye ball the power to weight ratio you may decide it's not for you. That old ratio was the one you use to use in the old days. You compute that for assorted cars. In automatic form you aren't stiring the gears, dodgie bones and shoulders it's handy.

This review they describe the 1.0 litre Ateca as a city peppy car although they like the 1.4.

The 1 litre probably good for a city car and in DSG form good for the elderly struggling with gear change. 1.4 for the more sporty youngsters. Buyers loved the 4th cylinder closing down whilst in 1 litre forform you haven't got in.

As I said earlier in those launch cars of that period in non Xcellence form the seats were pretty bad. I tried a few out for comfort whilst waiting for my Xcellence to be built. That has a form of bucket seats but not as good as my old Altea Sport for comfort. I'd probably say if you see an Xcellence in second hand go for it and that would be 1.4. Subsequent they changed the X designation but they were still "excellence". The FRs don't tend to have so many bells and whistles in the package. It's worth cross checking.

Attached is the 2016 UK launch price list and spec which might be helpful. Outside the UK spec may have been different.

Pretty good autocar's review of Seat Ateca and definitely I must agree that 1.0 TSI is not enough for Ateca. On the other hand 1.4 TSI should be right choice for gasoline engine, but I'm wondering how much higher fuel consumption has in city traffic and how reliable is 1.4 TSI 4drive because as I've said there are a lot more 4drive 1.4 TSI Atecas on used car market. On the paper 1.4 TSI 4drive should give 5MPG less then 1.4 TSI front wheel drive and 600lb heavier and potential issues with haldex on used car with 100k+ miles. Has anybody driven Ateca 1.4 TSI 4drive and how it performed? Also did all Atecas with 1.4 TSI engines from 2016-2018 have ACT (Active Cylinder Technology) management or it was optional feature for Ateca with 1.4 TSI engine?

Yes the 1.5 tsi didn't make it on the original launch. They were using up their old 1.4 tsi engines. Other Vag cars got them but there were reported flat spots or something on the 1.5 engine so Ateca 1.4 tsi s missed out on that so a blessing but not seen as such for those that wanted the latest. These were all active in the 1.4, the cylinder would shut down when not required. So 1.4 tsi people loved that technology at the time.

It could be the way the 1.4 tsi was paired with 4drive in your part of the world why you see more. This old one that I was told by a Seat dealer in the north of England "we only get given cars that they know will sell". When I called in passing by. Read as head office only gives us cars for the show room that will shift so they didn't have fully specified cars. Thats different to my local dealer that specified a Cupra that they knew a local was interest in and sold it the day it came in to the guy.

So on not finding the 1.5 on all early cars you may be blessed if that quirk had not been fixed. The 1.5 issue went on for a bit.

Mine is a 4drive with a tdi 2.0 engine so more powerful. You might want to check that power to weight ratio on a 1.4 with the haldex system and not. Haldex does click in on ice and snow in normal drive when required but not that often round here. On bad roads I turn it to the snow / ice setting and back off. You don't have to stop the car to do that.

I've never driven the 1.4 tsi. Now people did say at the time with 2 drive Atecas coming from diesel they found they had less grip in snow and ice since switching to petrol they had a lighter car. This was the period when diesels became unpopular. 4 drive would be more of a blessing in that situation.
