Recently got the system flushed out and coolant changed now I don't know if I have a problem or not but ....

The car takes awhile to warm up it did before takes a while go get up to 90 degrees.

On the way home just now I put the heaters on high setting with econ button blank so off?

When I did this the temp dropped to say 60/70 when I parked up and left it 2 mins or so it went back up to 90.

I've check the hoses going into the bulk head there hot, I've also check other hoses the hose near the cap is also hot but the ones at the front are luk warm?

Possibly have an air-lock but more than likely a thermostat problem. Worth checking your header tank level to see if it's dropped any since taking it for a run but the gauge once having reached 87* shouldn't drop down.

Header tank level is fine checked that.

It's only when I put the heaters on max and on the highest temperature the temp gauge drops to say 60-70

My wife's does this but only when it's cold outside its very odd! When it's around 0 or less outside the car will just about reach 90ish, but go on the motorway and have the in car heater set to 22deg and with econ on (ie no ac running) and the coolant temp will drop quite quickly to 60 deg or less.

I took the car back to the garage and kicked off, they agreed to change the thermostat but it still does it (just not as bad) so it would seem that the engine is either uber efficient in its burn and gives off a little waste heat (unlikely esp as it drinks fuel and it's a 1700kg car with me in on the weigh bridge at work! Golds etc are 1400 to 1500kg!) or there is a querk in the coolant layout where it still sends some through the main rad all the time, and the in car heater matix is very efficient at cooling the engine.

You could try changing the stat but I wouldn't count on it (I'm tempted to change mine again but it's a faf I cba with right now)

My Audi A3 had similar symptoms and I bought a cheap thermostat off flea bay, sorted the problem for about six months before symptoms returned. Ended up buying a genuine thermostat and sorted the problem till I moved the car on, lesson learned!

Thank you both trust me to find every little problem with something. Well I work in a motor factors I might try a firstline thermostat or one from TPS.

I might even leave it and monitor it see how it goes the trip to work and back is only 20 mins at best so it might of not even warmed up properly before I was playing around with the heater on high setting full fan speed.

To be expected of a very efficient diesel engine, opening the heater dumps the heat inside the car and lowers the temp of the engine coolant, a common trick when the fanbelt snapped.

I don't believe there is a fault with the thermostat on my behalf, everything running fine at the moment, temp like i said only chances if i put the heaters on full wack.

Think im going to get mine replaced see if anything changes, driving to work today put heaters on full again and the temp went down to a quater from half. Heaters didnt seem to get proper warm either. This is after 15-20mins of driving.

Hi,

I got my 2013 Exeo ST CR170 with 4000 miles on and a bargin price:) as the dealers were knocking them out cheap due to Seat ceasing the Exeo production:(.
Since I've had it my temp hardly moves on my 8 drive to work when the ambient temp is cold, when it's warmer it hits 90 and also drops when stationary for a while in traffic.
I questioned this with the dealer who said it's a characteristic of an efficient engine, I had no reason not to believe him as it was so new and few miles on the clock.
Its still the same now after 18 months of ownership and now 13000 on the clock.

Hi Dave,

8 mile trip was that?

Yeah mine moves from 90 when heaters are on full... also after say a 20 min drive even though heaters are on full the heat out of them arnt as warm as you'd think, id say warmish.

With econ light off and the heaters on temp doesn't move??? Only when econ is lit up the temp moves

With econ light off your aircon is on which will power the radiator cooling fans so your engine will run cooler and take longer to heat up.

I'm confused by the climate control then, right basically I run the car up to temp half way -

If I put econ button on ( so lit red light ) if I set the target temp high or high figures the temp gauge will go down... After 15 - 20 mins of driving the heaters arnt really that warm to be honest.

Now if I have the econ off so unlit set the temp high after 15-20 mins of driving the fans are hot and the temp doesn't move from 90 half way

If the econ button stays lit when you try to turn on and off it indicates a fault in the aircon system.

No fault on the system just don't under how the system works, when econ is unlit and on low aircon kicks in and is very very cold. when you raise the temp to high with econ unlit the air is very warm..... when econ button is lit aircon off target temp set the air is luke warm

My Exeo hasn't seen an engine temperature over 70 deg in weeks no matter what the outside temperature is. So I got a couple of quotes over the weekend for a thermostat change.

First quote (VAG specialist) was £297.38  They said the parts were £38 and 3 hours labour.

Second quote was £80 (inc VAT) + parts from Arnold Clarke.

It doesn't take a rocket scientist to choose between the two options so the car is booked in Monday and I've asked for all genuine parts and a coolant system flush and fluid change.
