It should be lighter than the mk4 so I think they ma be similar to the mk4 cupra. I know the 2.0TDi CR have a wider powerband so it may not push you back in your seat like the PD engines tend to when they come on boost. I can imagine a remapped 140 would be very nice indeed.

All new cars seem very expensive. Think its down to the euro.

Saying that with the FR Petrol your getting a very advanced engine and DSG gear box. With the diesel its a manual how expensive is the actual 2.0TDi CR??

When car is out of warranty, how much is a new DSG gearbox? I shudder whenever i hear advanced technology and production cars mentioned, like fiat and there new multiair engines... urgh, i can see the bills now.

I thought that too, but looking at the prices the germans themselves pay its still more than us!

Think its because the EU and US are pushing all these emissions legislations, and therefore to meet the targets car manufacturers are having to spend even more on Research and development, and ultimately costs will get passed on to the consumer.

I still can`t get my head around the fact that in europe the diesel is 700 euro`s less than the petrol but over here it`s £945 more:doh:

16.5k :headhurt: without any options added!! And almost 1k dearer than a DSG equipped Petrol FR  How do they work that out?

At those prices dont think ill be replacing my Mk4 any time soon, which is a shame was looking forward to seeing what other TDi engines would turn up. What sort of silly price would a Cupra TDi be then:scary:

Agree with Ant have to wait for some 2nd hand ones to hit the forcourts. Better keep polishing the Mk4 for a bit

It is a shame. Its as if they know diesel is the more viable option in the UK so they put a premium on it.

TBH I'm not worried about the DSG gearbox it sounds like a strong piece of kit which has been well developed. There are built in safety functions to stop clutch wear as well as the over cautious ESP torque limiting to keep it safe. They are sealed units where apparently the clutch packs wont need changing for the life of the car. But.. time will tell. I think if there are any problems with engine or box it will be within the first year.

A cupra TDI I would guess would be near 18k. With the new VAT rate a standard Boc is over 17K now!

In the EU is the annual wage higher in comparison to the UK. I just cant fathom how they think charging the equivalent of 21k is OK on the continent!

iirc wages are actually lower, as cosgt of living (in some countries) is lower, i think we agree, that a price point of £15k-£15.5k would have been right for this car, cost of buying a new motor has gone up we know that, but £16.5k is overkill, i doubt very much it'll be the most popular model this time around

Agreed £15k would have been more reasonable. At the price they are asking now its doubtful they will sell many.
