i'd just like to ask anybody if they know what the biggest speaker size is that i can fit in the doors cos i've broken mine and in desperate need for new ones . cheers

Probably best just unscrewing and having a look, mate. Even if you match the correct size.. you've got to still get the correct depth and positioning on the screwholes of your new speakers.

That said, Autoleads, among other companies, make speaker-adaptor kits. Search for them on places like caraudiosecurity.com etc. and see if they can supply an adaptor kit for your 1.4s. Not only will it tell you the correct diamater of the speakers, but it'll also show you what options are available.

I am 99% sure they are 17cm speakers in the Leon, all round. But double check.

6.5" speakers all round. can't remember the conversion from in to cm but it may be 17 cm.

The depth is an issue, either get the Autoleads speaker baffle for the Mk.4 Golf, or get a carpenter/ICE shop to make MDF rings out of 18mm MDF.
