Separate oil feed for just Turbo

Whilst i was in the pub on friday i was speaking to a mechanic friend who had just serviced a heavily modified old polo.
This old G40 had the supercharger replaced with a turbocharger.
In the middle of servicing this he found another oil resovoir that feed the turbo only.
The oil of the car still circulated the engine, etc but no longer the turbo
This separate oil supply for the turbo had a very high quality oil too and an inline pressure gauge in case of leaks, etc.
Anyway my question is has anybody done something similiar to this to their cars?
Would it prolong turbo life of standard/hybrid?
Would it be very difficult to install and find room for an extra resovoir?
Would it be worthwhile for those running big expensive turbos?
With all the fittings, etc would it be extremely expensive to do?
Hopefully someone knowledgeable maybe able to help with pros and cons or shoot me down in flames and tell me i had one too many in the pub and dreamt the whole thing as i lay in the gutter
Cheers

Not heard of this being done, even on the seriously BT installs.
The OEM KO4 takes a very high oil pressure compared to the BT's, these need restrictors inline to reduce this pressure.
Better off just running good oil and regular services

This was most likley one of the old pitstop development kits originaly ment for the supercharger (i run this kit on my G40 but it's supercharged not turbo) and has been moded to alow it to run on the turbo instal, the pump supplied with most of the kits was a 12v Facet fuel pump iirc, the sort use for carb'd motors etc.

The supply pressure was not that high around 6-8psi (not sure if this would be ok for turbo applications? if its not i'm sure an uprated pump would solve the problem) but it is spot on for the supercharger as it is constand pressure and it alowes for a thiner oil to be use, because any of you who have had a G charger will know they dont like thick high pressure oil very much, some people run twin pumps to cover themselves if one pump fails and the kit also has an inline fillter, and is all constructed from the goodridge 200 series hose and fittings, most people also fitted inline pressure gauges to keep an eye on it all.

With regards to cooling the oil most G40/60 owners i have seen have not bothered as the supercharger itself do not genarate that much heat, most of the heat in the charger comes from it flowing hot engin oil on the OE setup. But the few turbo conversions i have seen running this setup just had a small oil cooler fitted so the hot oil passed through the cooler then returned back to the tank. This set up is becomming more and more popular on turbo G40/60 as the superchargers and spares are now silly money and hard to get hold of, so most either fit an M45 supercharger which is a sealed unit and does not need an oil supply or they fit a turbo (mostly K03-K03s on G40) and keep the independant oil supply.

Regards Tasha:)
