Purely talking mechanics (engines/intake/ancillaries etc), what are the differences between the FR TDi and Cupra TDi?

I'm a new forum member, and trying to get my head around the differences so would really appreciate any help.

I've done a search and cannot find anything which specifically confirms the differences, but if there is a post that does this, please show me the link.

My understanding is that the 160 has a different intercooler, intake, and map, but I assume there is more to it?

Thanks in advance...

Thanks for that.

And, oh my God - that's quite a spec for a diesel you have there!

Thanks mate i do like to piss off the petrol IHI turbo boys. In a few months i should have my bigger turbo setup fitted which will hopefully be 350 bhp+ without NOS if the engine stays in one piece....

That's mad. Good on you.

So is the Audi lump a completely different engine, or a version of the one fitted in the Cupra/FR Ibizas?

Engine wise they have a different turbo, intercooler, map, air intake pipe. Injectors are the same. Other mechanical differences are size of ARB,brakes, suspension, bushes, alloys etc.

I understand that the new FR and Cupras are the same ( i.e Looks, suspension wise) other than the tweeks to the engine, which, i also understand can be done quite easily to bring the FR up to Cupra spec?

I thought the AP's were 4 pots?

I stand corrected. PD 130 two pot and AP`s 4 pot. Pd130 single piston and AP`s 2 piston. I have always never understood why they call a caliper with a single piston two pots really. I go by the number of piston in the caliper which is why i have four pot calipers as far as i am concerned not eight as what everyone else call them but hay i am oftern called wierd/mad etc on site....

Bumpers on the new FR the same? Interior the same, save for badging, etc. ?
What is the difference in the brakes? Cheers.

Bumpers look similar but front is different, interior is similar but headlining is black in cupra and seat logo's are different.

Cupra has a bigger roof spoiler too iirc. The brakes are 4 pot/piston Seat Sport AP calipers biting into 312mm rotors. both front and rear bumpers are bespoke to the Cupra

and most importantly:

The Cupra is faster.............in standard form

I think everyones covered all the other differences now

And one other very important difference - insurance costs. I just did a confused.com search for ballpark figures, and the difference is not insignificant - about 40% more on a quick check for a standard Cupra TDi 160 versus a standard FR TDi 130.

Rear bumper is same on both FR and Cupra in current year, front bumper is bespoke though as you said.

As for other differences, well yeah the seats are the same basis, in fact Cupra seats are the same as FR underneather just originaly the cupra was the only one with the smooth finish material on it. Plus the cupras have black headlining and interior, used to be the only ones with white dial. Different exhaust back box on cupra too.

Also don't all Cupra's come with ESP as standard, from memory they do, optional on the FR. oh yeah and some FR's ( very few come with Xenons) which is not an option on the Cupra due to the intercooler pipes. Oh and there are a few and i mean a very few FR's that came with leather interior as it was an option for about 3 months back in 2005 but was deleted due to low uptake. i remember seeing one at listers that had the Leather interior and it was blody nice. Not available on the cupra.

Bigger ARB on cupra too. Red calipers on rear to match front 4-pots.
