Seriously confused - Ibiza 130TDi V 160TDi

And one other very important difference - insurance costs. I just did a confused.com search for ballpark figures, and the difference is not insignificant - about 40% more on a quick check for a standard Cupra TDi 160 versus a standard FR TDi 130.

when you get beyond 25, like........ ahem me, insurance becomes irrelivent if you've got the no claims to back it up

6 years NCB (27 years old), and a quick look has shown it's over £600 - more than a Cupra 180 at Elephant.co.uk like for like for example...

Hi Mr Dave...

That's me. This car's for the wife though (she's wanted a late spec Ibiza for a while now).

We tested a Cupra TDi at a dealer on Sunday and it's a nice piece of kit. Sadly, it wasn't the right car (for example, one of the wheels on the car was a completely different colour to the others). It's not a ballistic performer, but it can chug along nicely.

I'm the same, under £400 fully comp with Elephant and I don't exactly live in the swankiest part of town and its parked on the road! I would suggest putting a female on your policy. I've my girlfriend on mine and it knocked around £100 off the premium.

What I would say is that if you can afford the Cupra plus the insurance then there is no choice really, Cupra. I had a similar dilemma when buying but one chap on here made a point that helped swing it for me.

'If you buy an FR and a Cupra pulls up next to you at the lights, you'll glance over and wish you were in that instead!'

Its just my opinion I guess. Kind of like having a Clio197 and seeing a R27 draw up or in a Golf GTi and seeing R32 next to you. You are in a great car but for some reason the other one is that bit more special.

Fundamentally, the Cupra is top of the range, the FR isn't. I'm not belittling the FR in any way, its a fantastic car and I know theres not that much to choose between them but I thought I can afford it and SEAT must have their reasons for the Cupra to be the range topper so I didn't want to settle for anything else.

Looking at it objectively too, the TDi Cupra's are pretty thin on the ground and will hold their residual value better I would think :)

Fine, but that does not mean everyone thinks the same way. I test drove a Cupra and an FR and decided that the FR was a better package. I could afford either, but could not justify the massive difference in Insurance groups. The suspension in the Cupra being too harsh. I also prefer the looks of the FR, especially the alloys. I think i preferred the power delivery of the 130 as well, but again, this is all my opinion also. Horses for Courses! :)

The insurance rating is the thing that could hold back the value of the Cupra against the FR in the long run. If it was a couple of groups higher, I think the residuals would be much higher than the FR's, but only time will tell...

The suspension was surprisingly smooth in the Cupra I tried compared to what I was expecting. As has been said though, horses for courses.

Looking forward to picking our Cupra up on Saturday. Ordered it 5th May and it arrived about 5-6 weeks ago but I had them leave it in storage as I wasn't in a rush for it.

Now at least when I car share with the other half I'm either taking the Scooby or the Cupra to work while she takes the other, fun drive either way :)
