Service intervals

So the manual is as clear as mud when it comes to servicing.

I was told as the dealer the Leon Phev has a long life 2 year service interval and reading the manual it suggests there is 2 levels of servicing one long life and 1 every year or 15000km.

My service light has come on and says service is now due in 600 miles, the car is 10 months old. This seems early compared to the dealer and my understanding of the manual.

Can anyone provide any clarity on this?

On a side note, did your car come with a service book or is it all held online? Call me old fashioned but I do like a stamped book.

Can't say about service intervals I find it all confusing.

My car didn't come with a service book either, when questioning the dealer I was told it was all stored in the infotainment system, but I reckon its more kept online with Seat somewhere.

Seems like another way of Seat getting more money by charging independent garages for access to this system

I was wondering the same and what to do.

My understanding is all cars leave the factory on long life setting but the dealer can change this if required.

Since Covid my mileage/type of driving has changed so I think I’m just going to go for yearly servicing it may cost a bit more but I think 2 years on same oil with lots of shorter journeys and cold starts will be bad for the car longer term, I’m prob looking at keeping it for at least 4/5 years minimum.

Can’t decide whether to use a main dealer or a very good local specialist though.

I queried the lack of service book on my previous MK 3.5 Leon to be told "not needed its all online with Seat now" and the car was set for annual servicing according to the dash indicator - which reminded me promptly. No service book on the MK 4 so I understand however the service indicator seems to be set for longlife intervals and the under bonnet sticker dictates 0W20 oil. I have a service plan and the Seat documentation states "What your plan includes. The key items of your plan are; 1 x Oil Service 1 x Oil and Inspection Service" So that means I actually get 4 years worth of servicing not 2?

You can have the service indicator set to your own preference at any time. I asked for long life before delivery, as it's a lease and a waste of money otherwise, but most dealers will automatically set an annual interval as it increases their income.

If you buy the service plan then the car will certainly be set on long life and you get those two services as a maximum, depending on your driving style and distance, but you'll probably only get the first one in three years.

PHEV have to be serviced every 9800 miles or so and can’t be put on a long service plan I have been told by main dealer and Seat uk, also told the same for a Skoda Octavia PHEV. Service warning can be reset but will invalidate your warranty, we have 6 in our fleet and have been told the same by several dealers.
This only applies to PHEV’s and not normal petrol or mild hybrid cars or diesel cars

Each car comes from the factory with a preset service interval(long life engine oil or not)I called the dealership and according to the Vin of my car they said that the car came with long life oil (2 Years or 30000 km) but they strongly recommend that I must change the oil in 15000km!The question is should I trust the factory or the dealer?Anyway 30000km sounds to much and I am afraid to keep the oil for such a long time. What do you think?

Personally I wouldn't bother nowadays if the engine is set to long life intervals then special oil is used. This shouldn't affect anything as oil development is progressed well. There is no any recommendations from Seat about 15000 or less. So this would be clearly down to garage profit on service.

So I went to book my service online and when I input my reg and mileage it doesn't even give the option for a service, only things such as brake pads, gear box service etc but not an actual service. I even changed the mileage to 20,000 and still no option. I'm so confused, going to call the supplying dealer and see what they say (they are 400 miles away so should realistically give an honest answer as there's no chance they will be getting the job)

So the dealer (Marshalls) couldn't really give much of an insight and needless to say neither could my 'local' dealer (40 odd miles away W. Livingstone) couldn't either.

So in order to maintain the 'correct' service schedule the car is booked in next week.

Standing in the shower in the gym however I was having a think about it all (as you do) and I couldn't quite fathom why a car which is running on electric motors for around 70% of the time and an internal combustion engine around 30% of the time, would need serviced at the same/lesser mileage than one that is running on a very similar engine 100% of all journeys. To me it makes no sense.
