Why's that??

Because Castrol as a company operate some shady sales tactics.

You want a fully synthetic oil, you buy one from Mobil, you get a fully synthetic oil.

You buy one from Castrol, you get their own special version of a fully synthetic oil, which isn't actually fully synthetic. More a sort of highly modified semi synthetic oil which they took a Court case out to be able to call a fully synthetic oil.

Just to confirm all i need is:

  • Spark plugs - 3 of these
  • Oil - Quantum Longlife III ?
  • Oil Filter
  • Pollen filter
  • Air filter
  • Fuel filter - is this worth while doing?
Confirmed. :D

Fuel filter I would do every 20-30k. I changed it when I got mine for piece of mind, though I won't be doing it at it's next service.

Yes you can go to VW to get all the parts, just make a note of your engine code (3 letter code, mine is AZQ for example) and take that, as the engines are shared with the 2002 onwards Polos.

Thankyou matey! I don't know when it was last done tbh so i'll change it myself this service. I've only done just over 5,000 miles since having the car, thats over two years! But a year of that was because i didn't drive to work. Whereas now i do.

The oil, Quantum Longlife III, that's correct isn't it? Do you know how much it takes from empty to fill? That will probably be the only thing i get from V Dubs, as they are so expensive round my way.

TIA for any help people![B)]

Yup, Quantum Longlife III will do just fine. You buy it in a 5litre container, but filling the car only takes about the 3 litres, so you'll have a bit left over. ;)

You can get the oil from your local TPS, just like your service bits. Google "Trade Parts Specialists" and enter your postcode, you might just find one nearby. They sell all genuine parts with a bit of discount. They shouldn't really sell to Joe Public, however the ones near me do!

The oil may have gone up in price since I last bought some, it used to about £16 + VAT, but since then the VAT has gone up and a price revision came in... so it could be more than that now.

As long as its under twenty notes for five litres i'm not too fussed. I heard the Quantum Longlife III is meant to help the timing chain on our motors, so i'm gonna roll with it hehe

I googled TPS last night actually, and the nearest one is the same distance as the SEAT garage around twenty miles. The V Dub stealers is only just down the road, about mile and a half :)!

Worth doing if you can. I'll get it done one day in summer when it's fine and the car doesn't desperately need to go anywhere for a day or so while I feck on with it.

Cheers buddy, i will def do this. really hope it helps my poor 29MPG, can't believe i'm getting the same MPG as a petrol Cupra haha

Wish I was getting this :p haha, mind you my car is getting on a bit heh. Really hope the fuel filter will make a difference, even if it's only a little

Serviced my car yesterday but the fuel filter split so just got a new one as the one I was sent was wrong :( going to change it now then shall test her out :)

Sounded sweet as a nut yesterday though when I started her up to get the oil through the system :)
