So you're basically saying that because you've never seen it, and because the max you've ever seen on your own car is 229 then it can't possibly be improved upon?

I'm not an expert in these matters by any means so can you please explain to me why g/s readings on a dyno are always lower than on the road?

*edit*

Just read your build thread so can see why you are taking this stance.

"Custom Code stage 2 mapped, 285+ BHP, 305 FTLB (LOW BOOST 1.4 Bar). Badger5's highest dyno figures on K04 turbo
Engine"

Would it not be better for everyone if we took a scientific approach to this debate and you stick your car on Bills rollers exactly as it is, then swap your TIP for the SFS one and run it again, same day, back to back and compare? :)

the reason airflow is lower on a dyno is because on a dyno the air movement is caused by fans, on the road your doing over 100mph and no fan can emulate this kind of air flow. on the dyno i actually max out at 222gs. sfs say the badger 5 made 233, well thats impossible on the rollers and to say 235 on there tip is just a joke. this is possible on a hybrid turbo but not a stock k04. im not saying the sfs tip is poor as its not, im just saying there figures they state are not realistic. the reason for this is simple, a k04 just can flow this amount of air, even with a 6" tip. im not getting funny but i know bill pretty well and i know the time and effort he put in to making this tip, then sfs come along and state there product to be better with no proof is a joke.

To be fair when I spoke to the guy at sfs he had no knowledge of b5 v2 tip and and I'm shocked they slated b5 tip like that , that's just not good practice. But agreed it comes down to most people's budget what will make up there mind to buy , take noting away the work and testing b5 as done if he also did it in green I would buy b5 tip all day . No chance you will do a one off b5 tip in green bill ?

But surely with all the gubbins between the front exterior of your car and the filter on the end of the TIP there is no way the air is hitting the filter at 100mph?

I do understand what you're saying though that a K04, or any turbo for that matter, will reach a point where it can only flow so much air and no amount of extra width will do anything to change that.

Was there not something on Audi-Sport about people de-screening their MAF's to increase peak g/s figures? I'll need to try and dig that post out...

its the air being forced into the engine bay when driving. like i say, i log 222gs on the rollers and 229gs on the road with no changes to the car. also on the road cooling is alot better. people seem to forget that a car should make more power on the road than on a dyno.

Going by the rule of thumb, the car on page one in the RR graph should only be pulling 226g/s as a very rough guess then?

And going by the extra cooling on the road, it should be making more power than that graph states?

only time will tell.
NO DOUBT there will be air flows/graphs being posted within the coming months as this TIP is cheaper.

no need to jump to conclusions now, just sit back and wait to see the results.

correct but only if the car is running at its best

sfs tip claim 235 gs, that means the car could make 294 bhp but infact makes 282 bhp.
i made 285bhp from 222gs (on a unhappy dyno), now this tells me that the car they use is under performing vs airflow.

I think its embarrassing that sfs/awesome has done that. School playground stuff in my opinion. Regarding the apparent "4bhp/16lbft" increase using the sfs hose? Would the 26% lower humidity not account for this??

There was but its been proven unreliable... without the screen there is no laminar (stabilised) flow over the MAF sensor and this gives higher readings however as proven on Welly's (ASN member) S3 whilst being mapped at Bill's with a hybrid K04 the de-screened MAF eluded to more airflow in VCDS however with the screened MAF (same sensor, different housing) the car made more power yet showed less airflow...

Airflow doesn't always seem to translate into power... this is especially true on hybrids and BT installs I have seen...

Meh.

Look at the pic on page 1, then look at Bills TIP's, 3'', or 80mm, need I say more?

As an engineer, the principle of a billet adaptor, then some nice simple pipework appeals hugely, in terms of flow, it HAS to be better.

Don't just think of size, but think of flow in all areas of the TIP, the way the SFS turns 90 degrees is SO aprupt, the flow on the inside of the radius is surely going to cause turbulence? I just don't like the look of it to be honest.

Sure, I'm open to the good idea being copied and applied on other new products, it's things like this that drive development onwards, but anyone thinking that this SFS can possibly be any improvement over a B5 TIP, is surely bonkers?

Badger 5 tip & sfs tip are gunna make similar gains apart from 0.5/1bhp differences! IMO I couldn't give a monkeys left bollock about minor 1bhp gains! End of the day there both 3 tips & sfs do the better deal at a brilliant price! All this talk of copying is childish. You all should be happy that a cheaper similar alliternative has arrived! Soon as I heard about the sfs tip
On here I was straight on the phone with my card details ready as it's such a good
Price! The tip itself with the %25 and no posting is just £95!!!! I've had a semi all day since I've ordered it :)
